An Opinion Strongly Held in an Open Palm
Everyone has an opinion about what Democrats did wrong in 2024 and what they need to do next—do more, do less, go left, go right. But something I haven’t seen many people talk about is that the Democrat Party is dead. It died on November 5, 2024.
Now, the Republican Party died in 2016 and became the party of Trump or MAGA. But all that meant then and again in 2020 when the party said, that was fun, let's do it again, was that the party was whatever Trump said.
But this year, even while Trump continued to suck all the oxygen out of each news cycle, a new organism seemed to be growing and replacing the bleached bones of the former Republican Party. As the Democrats tacked hard to the left into identity politics and purity tests, the red tent seemed to widen, welcoming in RFK Jr. Gabbard, and Musk — all former Democrats who hadn’t seemed to shift their politics as much as the Overton window of Democrat orthodoxy shifted away from them.
And as these new members came in and brought their pet passion policies, this new party started to cannibalize the most broadly appealing parts of the historical Democrat platform — party of the working class, free speech, anti-war, etc.
And it did this while the Democrats kept tacking hard into the winds of identity politics. But on election night, America said nyet.
As the blue tent has become quiet, somber, and introspective since election night, two popular reactions have emerged. First, a doubling down, a calling people uneducated, fascists, racists — literally all the mistakes that caused them to lose the election — let’s just do more of that.
The second reaction is a thoughtful, reasonable effort to try to move the party back toward the historical strongholds — party of the working class, free speech, anti-war, etc.. Great, except for one tiny problem. Those are Republican policies now (or whatever name this new party eventually gets called).
Sorry Dems, you can’t rage quit one day and then quietly slide back up to your desk the next day and pretend nothing happened.
Is this an oversimplification? Sure. It’s my casual couch observation of goings-on on X. What happens next? I have no idea, but I’m rooting for the funniest outcome. This is politics after all.
The Democrat Party is dead. Long live the Democrat Party.
This is not hard. Stop sourcing recipes from IG. Buy a whole chicken. Watch a video on how to break it down. Buy a couple of carrots, some celery, a few onions, potatoes, and tomato paste and you're good to go. Narrow your focus; learn the basics.
Some reasons why cooking is overwhelming for many:
-To cook each cuisine requires different base set of spices, staples, etc
-Popular recipes often include obscure, expensive ingredients
-Purchasing exact item amts often not possible
-Utilizing rest of perishable food challenging
@realEstateTrent Alemany Farmer's market is where it's at if you want to go elbow-to-elbow with asian grandmas at 7 AM on a Saturday in order to snag the freshest produce.
You won’t hear this on Fox News:
California just released a balanced budget that wipes out the deficit this year AND next — while protecting health care and safety nets.
Meanwhile, Trump ADDED $2.4 TRILLION to the federal deficit with his “Big Beautiful Betrayal.”
Republicans ruin budgets.
Democrats balance them.
Adulting matters.
I am super excited about this project — slated to begin as soon as the high speed rail project is complete, currently estimated to be the year 10,191 AG
While the Trump Administration tears down clean energy in favor of fossil fuels, California is activating a pilot project for the nation’s first solar-covered canal.
We're investing in new technologies to find more solutions for lowering costs, saving water, and preparing for a hotter, drier future.
@Clara_Gold Re: #5, some of us have seen this coming and are already building in this direction. But we're off the main trail and no one is looking. When the crisis comes (it's already here), we'll be ready.
Humans just launched into space, on their way to the moon (flyby around it). It'll be farthest humans have ever traveled into deep space 🤯 Congrats to all the incredible engineers & teams involved! LFG!!!!!!!
@JustinBuzzard We offered my kids a choice: Disneyland or Europe since the costs were about the same. London, Paris, and Barcelona for same the cost as a photo with Mickey Mouse. Reader, there was no debate.
