🚨BREAKING: We are heartbroken to share that Kshamenk, Argentina’s last captive orca, held at Mundo Marino, died this morning. 💔🐋

After more than 30 years in captivity, Kshamenk’s life was marked by isolation and suffering. While this loss is devastating, we take some solace in knowing that he is finally free.

More information to come.

Rest in Peace, Kshamenk. 🙏🌊🐋

After 25 years of loneliness, in a crumbling, small tank accompanied only by dolphins, kshamenk passed away at age 36. He fought hard, and until the end, and now I hope his soul will forever be at peace. Swim far, big guy, I'm sorry we failed you.

Approximately 60 Bottlenose dolphins that were driven into the Cove yesterday (they were estimated 30-40 yesterday though), 11 were transported to Moriura Bay and 3 were transported to Taiji Harbor, and a total of 14 were imprisoned. ➡️

Probably five hunting boats were chasing the dolphins, but I think they escaped. Finally they camed back empty handed.

The Japan Fisheries Agency has not yet officially announced this season’s quota, but I was able to confirm them with the Wakayama Prefectural Fisheries Bureau.

This year, the number of Bottlenose Dolphins has decreased by 10 from last year to 263, for a total of 1,814.

イルカ猟の今シーズンの捕獲枠を水産庁はまだ公式に発表していませんが、和歌山県庁水産局にて確認が取れました。
今年は昨年よりバンドウイルカが10頭減り263頭に。合計では1,814頭です。

Taiji, Japan: Approximately 10 Risso dolphins were driven into the cove today in Taiji, Japan, then quickly herded under the killing tarps, where they were brutally slaughtered.
no lives were spared.

This is Kshamenk, Argentina’s last captive orca. He’s been in these concrete tanks at Mundo Marino since 1992. He hasn’t seen another orca since 2000. Orcas are social animals and live with their families in the wild. Solitary confinement is akin to torture. Free Kshamenk!
