@OlijnykTherese @KIN110UofR The Riders have a line where anybody can text in a problem or a violation of the “Fan Code of Conduct” near their seat. This notifies security immediately of where their presence is needed. Great thing to reduce violence during the game! https://t.co/FcTsjOfutP
@KIN110UofR I’m glad athletes like Dwayne are aware of how much difference they can make in the world. Small efforts can make substantial differences to the less fortunate. 🙌🏻
Although the AAF has now suspended operations. This was an interesting article to read: https://t.co/3biSBJj4xp. If this football league allowed fights would it have put more fans in the seats? #violence#spectatorship@KIN110UofR#KIN1102019
@RobRooney4@KIN110UofR I see your point here Rob, I agree. Simply put - if knocking somebody out is accepted in the MMA but not on the street. This is by definition a #doublestandard. Where do we draw the line with violence.
@CarlyShamray@KIN110UofR These parents have no idea how negatively they are effecting these children. In youth sport, winning should almost always be secondary to learning and having fun. In my opinion sport is a valuable part of children social development and this should not be intercepted by adults.
@JLKin110 In my opinion, some of these athletes that are testing positive might not really care about awards, or their legacy. To some, sport isn’t just an interest or a hobby, it’s their job and they get paid to perform. Usually the better you perform the more you get paid. #Lab8KIN11019
@RobRooney4 The NFL’s Julian Edelman once tested positive for PED’s and was suspended for a portion of the 2018 season. When he made his return, it was as if nothing happened and was still considered a fan favourite. I would argue that a PED suspension is becoming normalized. #Lab8KIN11019
@SandhuArchit Steroids were introduced to the MLB’s banned substances list in 1991, but the testing of athletes never began until 2003! This is an example of how easy it was for a person like Barry Bonds to get away with it at that point in time #Lab8KIN11019
@KaylaSt01686885 I think one of the problems could be that athletes are not as concerned about their health as they should be. All that matters to them is that gold medal or first place finish #Lab8KIN11019
@NolanGasper@KIN110UofR Additionally, the rewards of cheating may outweigh the consequences for these athletes. A years suspension is a small price to play when multi year multi million dollar contract are at stake. #Lab8KIN11019
I feel managing doping in athletes is definitely becoming a lost cause. If we strive for fairness, should a 7’6” tall person be able to play basketball? Advantages are everywhere in sport - is it time to embrace them? https://t.co/1CQTTXcMtA #Lab8KIN11019
@KIN110UofR Although ice hockey is a far more viewed sport amongst Canadians. According to https://t.co/rxslZ3no0W. of the world population of curlers, it is estimated that nearly 80% of them are Canadian. Is it possible that curling could be Canada’s national winter sport? #canadiansports
@KIN110UofR Random companies attach their names to sports related events all the time. Example: “Super Bowl LIII presented by Verizon” or “The Pepsi Halftime Show.” This is a great marketing tool that exposes their brand to the 100 million people that watched the Super Bowl. #sponsorships
@SavageJayd I did not. However, my parents always made sure I was very involved with sport and activity in my community. I think this technology is making youth increasingly more “lazy” and reducing their physical activity levels. #Lab2KIN11019
@JessicaGaudet4 Agreed! I think this concept is also the reason why the “losers” you mentioned tend to stick with informal sports because of the competition level.
I believe informal sports promote that playing well and having fun really are the most important things. The score of a pickup basketball game may not matter as much as a formal game. Which could promote more fun rather than competition. #Lab2Kin11019
@CarlyShamray Absolutely, during early years it may be purely for fun. However, as they age and become more knowledgeable about the game the desire to win becomes much stronger.
@KIN110UofR I think it is important for youth to play multiple sports. Each sport has different motor skills that are required and are developed through repetition. If we limit our youth to one sport they could be missing out on skills developed in other areas. #earlyspecialization
@Bustariems @OlijnykTherese @Leah76335419 In a team sport setting, a possible negative could be that informal sport prioritizes individual performance over overall team performance. Thoughts!? #Lab2Kin11019
