Never forget when MythBusters covered a Ford Taurus in modelling clay and scooped out 1,082 dimples to see if the aerodynamics of golf ball dimples could scale to a car.

It worked: a dimpled Taurus was more fuel efficient than the standard one (to make sure the cars weighed the same, the team put the same amount of clay in the trunk of the car on the non-dimpled tests).

Across ~300 episodes, the Golf Dimple Car was one of their most surprising results.

Just an absolute got damn classic and probably the most visually absurd of their experiments.

Flooding in southern #Queens and southern #Brooklyn last night was caused by heavy rainfall, with portions of this area experiencing over 2" in one hour. The sewer capacity is generally 1.5-1.75"/h in this area.

Some locations reported as much as .5" of rain in just 5 minutes!

Stark differences in AR activity between October-December (14 strong or greater ARs) and January-March (only 3 strong ARs) helped explain the anomalously wet/dry conditions during those periods.

@jjrennie Need data denial. Take a run/case where we had all/good radiosondes (before reduction). The forecast becomes the control run. Then re-run model, but deny the upper-air data. Evaluate difference in skill. We do this with AR Recon dropsondes. NCEP has the infrastructure/framework.
