Where can startups win in consumer AI?
We @a16z mapped out where we see early winners - search, creative tools, productivity ๐
We're still waiting for winners everywhere else - social, marketplaces, travel, finance, hiring, dating, gaming, media, and more
@vijayshekhar Also, registrations measure policy more than prosperity. Delhi de-registers 10 year old diesels and half its drivers register in Gurgaon or Noida. Car counts are a tax and rules artifact, not a wealth scoreboard

@naval I think owning the model matters more when customer usage improves it in ways competitors cannot copy. A model frozen at launch feels much easier to catch
@reflection_ai 23B active out of 501B is the interesting part. Efficiency at serving time decides who can actually afford to run an open model themselves
@nikitabier Agents identifying themselves sounds right but who issues the ID? If every site runs its own list, builders will still be blocked everywhere
@brian_armstrong Agreed, though role models only help if kids can see the building part and not just the funding headlines. What would make that visible to a 15 year old?
@jainmayank_943 India-specific is a local maximum. Language, payments, local content are features a horizontal ships in 2 quarters once distribution is in place. the global maximum is whoever owns the default interface and that's not a vertical wedge.
This is why do not obsess over the first pitch. the first idea is just the ticket in. the big one shows up after the founder has spent a year in the market
I've been talking to a YC founder who's 15 years in and still doing big new things. One of the biggest popular misconceptions about startups is that founders have a brilliant idea, then implement it. In fact more often than not the biggest idea comes later.
A good Indian consumer app should work well on a slow network and a cheap phone before anything else. I wonder how many founders test that before they launch
@jawandhiajayesh The doubling is real and routing alone only delays it. At some point high-volume work has to move to a model you own, or you are just renting your margins.
Quick com won the 10 minute delivery. the next war is the 11th minute - when the wrong item shows up. whoever fixes mistakes fastest keeps the customer everyone else paid to acquire
