Just like Coach Bennett at UVA, Geno will retire the moment it happens with @UConnWBB. Won’t happen right away; but finding the players he wants to come to UConn will get increasingly harder …
I only wish I were young enough to / healthy enough to have come from Virginia back to Connecticut to be at the game tomorrow. All the best to @CoachJimMoraFB and @UConnFootball tomorrow and the rest of the season. As always, we’ll be watching and cheering from Virginia!!!
Watching Tony Bennett’s news conference and he is honest and genuine on why he wasn’t the right fit for the current state of the game. He’s old school. He embraces players getting compensation but worried about the overall health of college sports going forward. He elevated @UVAMensHoops. His character never changed. Bennett leaves UVA knowing he did it the right way. Bennett said he thought about this decision in the spring but was energized by the new class of Cavaliers. But a fall break trip with his wife Laurel last weekend allowed him to re-evaluate his life’s priorities. And that’s when he knew it was time.
Virginia basketball coach Tony Bennett is retiring.
- National champion
- 2x Coach of the Year
- Eight total ACC titles
- 433–169 career coaching record
- 364–136 record at Virginia
- Proud father, husband and son.
An absolute legend.
