@indri_4biking@AlexGodofsky I have two girls. I nor any other dad I know has ever taken their girl into the women’s. It’s mad. It’s the gents or they are old enough to go to the women’s on their own.
@MarkKirsh@ItsJamesPowers@LizWebsterSBF I love it. Could you define those two terms and the difference between them? Do you think it’s a distinction that can be communicated to voters at this point or possibly they are numb due to overuse of such terms?
@MarkKirsh@ItsJamesPowers@LizWebsterSBF I had a discussion with a Labour member recently. He described Reform as ‘the fascists’. I asked about Restore - he’d run out words, so he just went with ‘the same’. I think this overuse of emotive terms helps genuine racists and fascists, as voters become desensitised.
@GeorgeWParker@LOS_Fisher@stephenkb@JenWilliams_FT Voters suffering from the effects of concept creep? Decades of people & organisations labelled racist (eg mainstream Tories) and fascist (eg Reform), so we’ve run out of words that have an impact when Restore come along.
It is NOT ok to experiment on kids as young as 11 and make irreversible changes to their bodies.
We must protect children from dangerous ideology.
Conservatives will not just sit back and let this happen. I refuse to believe MPs, if given the chance, would let this continue. That is why we will force a vote, not just to pause this trial but to stop it completely.
@HansardSociety@redhistorian I don’t disagree on the power of tech bros, but with X it was there before Musk - it was just a different set of views getting promoted/marginalised. Eg getting banned for expressing gender critical views.
@LOS_Fisher@JenWilliams_FT@PickardJE Conflating these terms lowers the quality of the discussion (low enough already on immigration) and doesn’t help us understand where voters are at.
@LOS_Fisher@JenWilliams_FT@PickardJE Always good to define terms. ‘Far right’, ‘hard right’, ‘racist’, ‘nativist’ getting thrown about. Eg nativism = prioritising native-born or long-established inhabitants over immigrants. That’s not quite the same thing as racism, and it’s not just a right wing thing.
@POLITICOEurope@zoyashef@IanWishart Frustrating framing of the trans issue as fringe, far-right, and extreme. How do left wing feminists fit in here? Are the Athena Forum far-right? Advocating for sex-based rights and protecting vulnerable kids from poorly-evidenced medical interventions is not fringe or extreme.
@Grope_of_Big As for waste crime and fly tipping more enforcement (inc the organised crime), harsher punishments, stuff like digital waste tracking (current tracking system can be just scraps of paper).
@Grope_of_Big My point was it’s not just a case of chuck stuff in the ground and cover for a lot of waste. Eg. additives in plastic waste that you don’t want ending up in groundwater.
@Grope_of_Big@Bankiboom@worstall Landfills are more complex and costly than a hole in the ground. Ongoing maintenance and environmental externalities eg trying to manage leachate.
@tuftythecat@nmrqip@worstall Isn’t this largely due to low prices for virgin plastic? I’m not sure that negates the need to try and stop producing so much plastic waste.
@worstall But landfills are expensive to build and maintain, and have environmental externalities. I thought landfill tax was supposed to be ‘polluter pays’ and incentivise systemic change - good things, right?
@bodydesignbyml@shebringsjoy And yet girl dads everywhere (including me) have been doing this for years. It’s men standing at urinals trying not to show anyone their penis - there is nothing to see.
@Ravens_Eyes72 @shebringsjoy I and every girl dad I know IRL takes their daughters to the men’s . It’s fine. We’re not talking about nightclub toilets here.
@Happywife151@shebringsjoy It’s men standing at urinals. Do people think we just walk around with our dongs out in the men’s? I’ve taken my girls to men’s plenty of times and it’s fine.
