I got hit by some rather sudden and extreme financial hardship so if anyone is in need of remote wetlab contract research, strictly BSL1, do let me know. Currently scrambling for gigs.

@PlushieDreadful@therealksparkle@peachmilfshake Positive spin: People complaining abt @PlushieDreadful are actually increasing visibility for the company. Hadn’t heard of them before I saw this thread, but just now placed an order! I think the misspelled dyslexic tag is endearing and they should keep it ♥️
Who knew science could be so hauntingly beautiful? Check out this confocal microscopy image where a 12 μm cryosection from the head of an early chicken embryo forms a ghostly face. The image has been provided by Ádám Soós of @semmelweishu. Happy #Halloween!

Americans with student loans are out here begging people to listen because we are spending DECADES paying on these loans, but the balances never move. I have paid my entire loan balance from 2006 + $10,000, & I still owe more than the original loan. THIS IS CALLED USURY, & it is the norm. Debt consolidation scams are also rampant. My debt is on the lower end, but people are out here with 6 figure loan balances they will NEVER pay off. These aren’t loans, it’s crime.
Unfortunately, a lot of people—older Americans especially—have no idea this is our reality. Individuals are blamed, instead of the *extremely lucrative* student loans scam. People say, “Just pay your debts.” WE PAID OUR DEBTS, and then we paid them again, & again, & again. The balances never budge. I graduated college 20 years ago. End Stage Capitalism is SO bleak.
Still looking for a postdoc with systems neuroscience skills; in vivo activity recording and manipulation with specific behavioral tasks. NIH funded position available. Please email me. https://t.co/efhasoTmh0
So honored to receive this year’s Ajinomoto award from Achems! I owe a debt of gratitude to my amazing research group, past and present, collaborators, and mentors 😊
@sguyenet @BroChillerman You are doing the lord’s work and informing the public about energy balance and metabolism with legitimate information. It’s frustrating when folks dismiss your knowledge and credibility, with arguments that are not compelling, and have no legitimate scientific credentials
@PessoaBrain@HSompolinsky Yes, please! This course sounds amazing. I am currently a postdoc at Vanderbilt University, and would love to audit the course. Is there a way to post materials for the public or trainees?
@todhale@AKBrews What are they even doing on Xmas Eve anyhow? Some jobs require it, like hospitals, etc. But “talent agency”? Nobody’s opening the spam emails that she’s forcing them to send before their one day off 😂😂
@todhale@AKBrews I genuinely thought the story was going to go that she realized she was expecting her employees to work on Xmas eve day at all 😂😂 😂 A feel-good tale, and she realized there was more to life than working, when the guy wanted to set out cookies for Santa with his kids
Here's the thing about AI in biology: it absolutely has revolutionary potential, but any model is only as good as the data it's trained on. And there's a lot we don't know or are simply wrong about in bio.
Want to truly build AI for bio? Invest in basic discovery science.
@KMiksovsky @Imnotonfire3 @bdk1521 I thought of it as an example of a larger phenomenon. Like a thought experiment that could help other people out there understand some other perspectives. The original tweet struck a chord with a lot of people.
