Do not panic. Here is what worked for us.

My wife’s Airtel Axis card had not been used for months after the changes. Then the annual fee showed up.

Fortunately, we had not made any transaction even after the renewal fee was charged. That worked in our favour.

We called Axis, had a proper argument with customer support, and finally got connected to the retention team.

The result:

✅ Airtel Axis converted to a lifetime-free My Zone Credit Card
✅ Renewal fee reversed

So before closing any Axis card, always ask for:

• Upgrade options
• Downgrade options
• Lifetime-free alternatives
• Renewal fee reversal

Closing the card should be the final step, not the first one.

Sometimes, the retention team can save both the fee and your existing relationship with Axis.
