Day 4 of the UK Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week (3rd May) will focus on Dads. Its important to support dads as often their needs are overlooked.Feeling unwell yourself or supporting a partner can be challenging. https://t.co/4YqHJ2owVi #pmhpdads#maternalmhmatters#dads
Is anyone keeping a tally #suicide Of #Doctors here in UK. I know of >2 Med students since Dec. It’s so important to think about the individuals but numbers do make you shudder when so much distress happens behind closed doors. @iceman_ex@DocSupportNet https://t.co/FqVa93Bfob
The gov have invested in supporting doctors returning to work after a period of absence be it research, OOPE, illness, mat leave etc. #BawaGarba case has changed modern medicine. Let’s hope this helps restore some faith https://t.co/PjqaLmtSjh. @29Jaimee@RamminaY@JennaSaund
@MarkWilliamsFMH@MMHAlliance What do you think about the term “struggling mums?”. I used it to refer to myself but I don’t like it. Think it suggests I was trying my best but not succeeding- some kind of connotation of failure? Any thoughts on other terms we can use?
“We have to restore doctors’ collective self-esteem by treating them as intelligent adults and not naughty school children and by creating a culture in which their skills can flourish.” Perfect summary by @ClareGerada - https://t.co/jKqxAmT2OC @medicsupport@RamminaY
Debriefs for staff involved in the death of a child should be about so much more than just the facts. Check that your colleagues are ok. PTSD in #juniordoctors after such events is not uncommon https://t.co/Kk2sS8n0Mf @jotalbotbowen@29Jaimee
@ccpractitioner @abithecakelady Couldn’t agree more. It is not about being tough or resilient. Is is about knowing how to take care of ourselves and each other and working in a culture that promotes that.
@GoldenEagleJack Yes very much so. Nurse practionners play a key role in our service and more recently another position called physician associates has also helped. I don’t think physicians associates have to do nursing- it is a stand alone degree.
@rhian_bishop@29Jaimee@bexpowell83 @SheffieldHosp Supporting staff to develop those skills is fantastic. Until some of the fundamental flaws and pressures on the #NHS are dealt with, doctors, nurses and others will still struggle to prioritise themselves over patients, families etc and will continue to battle on. @DocSupportNet
There is no shame in asking for help. Resilience is not about being tough or ‘getting on with it’. It’s about learning self care, skills to juggle everything that happens in life and knowing when to ask for help. We can all develop resilience if the system lets us. @29Jaimee
@bexpowell83@29Jaimee Do you think people will ‘get it’ before they reach a point in their lives where it becomes necessary? I sure wish I had known about these skills but don’t know how receptive I would have been in my early years of training
