Missouri Farm Bureau recently submitted comments on the U.S. @ENERGY's Draft 2026 National Transmission Needs Study. The 112-page document examines transmission constraints and areas where additional infrastructure may be needed.

Yet four words are conspicuously absent from the study: “landowner,” “property owner,” “farmer,” and “rancher.” President @jgarrettHawkins takes exception to that in his op-ed published today in @AGDAILYMedia.

This morning, #MOFB President Garrett Hawkins joined leaders at a press conference held by the University of Missouri’s Center for Rural Energy Security (CRES) to discuss the future of energy development and its impact on rural Missouri.

The conversation comes as CRES releases new research examining the local economic impact of utility-scale wind and solar development in rural communities, including effects on agriculture, jobs, wages and local economies.

As Missouri’s energy needs continue to grow, farmers and rural communities deserve a strong voice in decisions that affect their land, livelihoods and communities. MOFB appreciates the opportunity to be part of these important conversations and to ensure agriculture remains at the table as Missouri plans for its energy future.
