When that guy in front of you doesn’t re-rack his weights nor wipe off the equipment and allows no one to work in with him during his 6 1/2 minute rest period in which he makes a Facetime call.
63% of all global service vessel activity above undersea cables in Q1 2026 happened in one corridor: the Indian Ocean.
Windward's Q1 2026 Undersea Cables Risk Report tracks two threat categories above the world's submarine cable infrastructure: intentional slow-speed activity by service and research vessels (surveillance risk), and trawling activity capable of physical damage.
The UAE–Oman corridor is the single highest-priority focus. Iran's entire service vessel State of Concern footprint sits there. A Chinese state-affiliated survey vessel logged 57.3 hours above the SMW5, FALCON, EIG, and AAE-1 systems across four separate events.
The Mediterranean is the only other corridor where surveillance risk and accidental damage risk converge — highest Flag of Convenience penetration of any region, and the densest trawler activity globally.

This Chinese fishing vessel, Change Tai 80,2 was detained by authorities off Peru. It was illegally operating inside Peruvian waters with it's AIS turned off!
Most of the crew on this vessel were migrant workers from Indonesia, forced to live like slaves! @MalayaIrredenta
