By a huge margin, they see trade as more of an opportunity for economic growth through increased US exports than as a threat, according to Gallup.

American consumers, especially those with lower incomes, respond to tariffs and the price increases they impose by cutting their spending and through “reallocation toward essentials and trade-down within categories”
