@bswud@TallRomanStatue Does anyone really want the inconvenience of these sterile outter suburban estates, completely devoid of life, or is it just that it's all they can afford? Surly being able to have a leisurely stroll to your local convenience, cafe, hairdresser, and pub is a vast improvement?
@Neverupneverup@Wombletom@but_cyclists Last year I watched a Karen doing that, and at considerable effort; really struggled to move some bikes but got her staged photo in the end.
The other thing I've seen a couple of times, which I suspect is the primary cause, is kids moving and knocking them over just for a laugh.
@NLondonCAMRA It was in such a sad state before it was rescued it too; I notably recall seeing a lot of bunk beds filling the rooms upstairs, guess it must have been a dodgy hmo before changing hands.
@BritainisCool Can we advocate for a system of government that doesn't have a single individual at the top as all the options we're presented with are rubbish.
@willnorman@TimeOutLondon Having done a fair amount of it I'd say many sections of it are lovely but unfortunately many sections are on street, quite dull and repetitive outer suburban trudges to make it complete. However you can usually reroute to find more interesting walks off the official trail.
@gordon861@BobFromAccounts Seeing as Bob decided to go on the wind up instead of sharing what the council is actually doing I found the details here https://t.co/gR5boOM8GK
@gordon861@BobFromAccounts The way the layout works nobody would ever drive there apart from for access as it will just loop around, maybe that falls under a different classification?
@London_W4@MacManInt True, still cheaper than most and they do plenty of deals too. Would love to see a price breakdown for a few different pub chains, i.e. where does your money actually go. X% rent, Y% wages, Z% duty, etc. I'm guessing the actual cost of the keg itself is a relatively small % too.
@MacManInt@London_W4 I believe they're able to do such cheap pints partly as they own the majority of their own pubs so they haven't been stung by commercial rent which has increased drastically, leading to much of the price rises elsewhere. Maybe some of the ones they're closing they haven't owned.
@MacManInt@London_W4 Yeah that would make sense; the challenge when you're selling drinks so cheap is that you'll need a lot of customers to make that sustainable. Possibly the relative fixed costs of a larger venue make that more feasible, as long as you can pull those numbers.
@IsSaddleThereIs@willnorman The one that gets me is that it's still basically impossible to safely go east-west across Islington. Apparently when going by bike the people of north east London only want to head into and out of central London.
@willnorman@TfL@LewishamCouncil Any plans to improve the route, such as the crossing at Horner Oak Park, or the very narrow filter on Garthorne Rd? Or even extend further to Sydenham (ie via Dacres Rd)?
@Dreamager@Sam_Dumitriu@BritainRemade Well they wouldn't be horrible once they'd been redeveloped. The thing about golf courses is they aren't close to stations and other amenities. So they'd have nothing useful nearby, they'd be almost entirely car dependent, and almost certainly low density as a result.
