Iâve just finished reading Gad Saadâs book Suicidal Empathy.
It ranks, along with Chris Rufoâs Americaâs Cultural Revolution: How the Radical Left Conquered Everything and Helen Pluckrose and James Lindsayâs Cynical Theories, as the best take-down of the lunacy at the heart of the wokeist philosophy.
For Saad, empathyâin itself a perfectly decent traitâhas become so grossly exaggerated that it threatens truth, reality, and justice.
Cases in point abound: so they wonât feel bad about themselves, weâll allow biological men to compete in womenâs sports and crush the dreams of thousands of young women; so as not to undermine the self-esteem of minorities, we will permit unqualified candidates to have positions in universities and the corporate world; so that everyone might feel included, we will characterize the meritocracy as âwhite privilege,â etc.
As I was making my way through Saadâs book, I kept remarking the sharp distinction between empathy and love.
To empathize is to enter profoundly into the experience of another and to endeavor not to hurt that personâs feelings. But to love is, as Thomas Aquinas taught, âto will the good of the other.â
As I said, in itself and all things being equal, empathy is a good thing. But it is not the same as love, which, depending on circumstances, can very much involve hurting someoneâs feelings.
When a professor gives a student a âCâ as an honest reflection of his work, he might well be insulting him, but heâs also telling him the truth and perhaps even urging him to try harder.
When, in the Confessional, a priest tells a murderer to turn himself in to the police, heâs undoubtedly making that personâs life more uncomfortable, but heâs also willing the manâs good.
Any decent parent knows that showing real love for her children means engendering all kinds of bad feelings in them.
In light of this distinction, we can understand why Jesus didnât say, âhave empathy for one another,â but rather âlove one another.â And why St. John the Evangelist didnât say, âGod is empathy,â but rather âGod is love.â
It occurred to me as I was reading Saadâs book that one reason Wokeism has seized the consciousness of so many in the West is that Christianity has faded as a cultural force and Christians themselves have forgotten what stands at the heart of their faith.
It was the middle of the night, at about 1.30am, when Norway lost to England.
Yet thousands of Norwegians went to the Palace in Oslo and celebrated with one final Viking row.
They did not riot. They did not burn cars. They did not smash bus stops or glass windows of shops.
They smiled. The laughed. They saw the positive in their performance. They celebrated their heritage. They were proud of who they have been in the past and who they are today.
Norway might be out of the World Cup 2026 but they are in our hearts.
In the last three weeks, I think we have all fallen a little bit in love with Norwegians.
Can you imagine that the Democrats are discussing lowering the retirement age of the Va Supreme Court to 54 which would force the entire court to resign (including the three that voted with them). Then stack the court with 7 justices who would have pledged to reverse the redistricting decision.
This is your Democrat party.
Power hungry thugs. Willing to burn a high court to the ground that dares to disagree with them.
They should never have power again.
This was the District 20 racially gerrymandered district that the new FL map unwound.
We said it was not constitutional under the upcoming Callais decision and now weâve been vindicated with the publication of the Supreme Courtâs opinion.
Another racial gerrymander bites the dust.
Kimmelâs hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country. His monologue about my family isnât comedy- his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America.
People like Kimmel shouldnât have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate.
A coward, Kimmel hides behind ABC because he knows the network will keep running cover to protect him.
Enough is enough. It is time for ABC to take a stand. How many times will ABCâs leadership enable Kimmelâs atrocious behavior at the expense of our community.
Wouldnât it be nice if the Secret Service agent who was shot last night was getting paid for his sacrifice? Stop the posturing democrats and fund the DHS!
A thought - Over 250 "Journalists" signed a letter that Trump should be made to feel "uncomfortable" at this event. I wonder if they will have regrets for sending that message out.
You want to know why no president before Trump has had the guts to stop Iran for the last 47 years?
Because no president had the vision to endure a short-term spike in gas prices in order to end the terrorist regime.
President Trump isn't running for reelection 2028. He's bucket listing everything now.
He's not going to leave office without doing everything in his power to make American great and the world safe.
They never should have shot at him. They awakened a sleeping giant and filled him with terrible resolve.
Here is my column on how the recent victory for free speech out of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. It is a story of how this little first-grade girl schooled her principal and a federal judge on the essence of free speech...https://t.co/s9Oo6iorE6
Democrats are playing political games with Americansâ safety. Theyâve been refusing to fund DHS FOR WEEKS, the very agency that PROTECTS our homeland. Itâs ridiculous!
Whatâs it going to take for Dems to finally put Americans FIRST and FUND DHS?!
I have got update from inside Iran for those who are genuinely worried.
Mainstream media is spreading nonsense to exploit your worry and save the regime.
My mom called this morning, she had to call cause internetâs cut again (it is a war crime). Explosions are louder than the 12-day war, but everyone is calm: strikes are precise, mostly away from homes. For nearby targets (mosques, IRGC/Basij bases in neighborhoods), people get phone warnings to evacuate first, consistent with 12 day war.
Even near Persian new year holidays, families are staying home as President @realDonaldTrump and Prince @PahlaviReza advised, avoiding schools and public spots because the regime uses them as human shields.
Thatâs why we in exile thank @POTUS and @netanyahu : they go to great lengths to protect civilians while the regime deliberately hits crowded areas to cause maximum casualties, not just in Israel, but also in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and Qatar.
Our only real worries: the regime itself, their faulty Chinese missiles, and their constant use of human shields.
Remember 2020: after striking the US base in Iraq, they shot down a civilian Iranian plane full of families and kids, hoping Trump would hit back so they could play victim (a Russian-style tactic). They miscalculated, Trump didnât retaliate and we painfully saw what this regime is truly capable of.
Stay calm. No one wants war, but this cancer leaves no other option but surgery.
Be patient, stay hopeful, and pray for American & Israeli heroes and for Iranians to come through safely.
And please share this video with your friends. You shouldnât trust MSM on this topic. My instagram id is @iranidaturan
The American people gave President Trump a clear mandate to strengthen border security and protect our communities.
Since taking office, @POTUS and @Sec_Noem have delivered historic results.
Promises made. Promises kept.
So let me just get this straightâŠ
