I’m not sure about that. My dad found fraud on his Medicare Explanation of Benefits statement. A durable medical equipment company was billing for catheter supplies for several months. I called the Medicare fraud line. They told me it’s a known fraudulent company. You would think if Medicare knew it was a fraudulent company they wouldn’t approve the payments? The Medicare fraud rep seemed completely unfazed and unconcerned. EOB’s come out quarterly or maybe even semi annually, which allows the fraud to happen for several months until it gets cut off (if it even gets noticed and reported). And they just keep doing it. The fraudsters don’t even need to change their fake companies’s billing ID. Insane.
My dad got a Medicare explanation of Benefits and noticed his Medicare was paying for him getting urinary catheter supplies from a (scam) durable medical equipment company! I called Medicare and they told me that this is a known fraudulent company and a common scam. The only way to know that it is happening is if you check your Medicare explanation of benefits, which only comes out a few times a year (maybe quarterly, I don’t remember). I asked if his Medicare number is compromised, should he get a new one! and they said no you don’t need to do anything. They seemed unfazed. If my dad hadn’t looked at the EOB Medicare would’ve been paying out to a known scammer for years.
