@SuperbWren22@Heladesh@philliesenj0yer It’s heavily implied Phil’s performative masculinity (not unlike his actor frank vincent) was to do with repressed homosexuality. They also deal with the irrationality of perceived sexual immorality several times most notably in the therapy scene where Tony attempts to appear
@baby_bunni_gutz@arnielf_9 It’s literally like level two feminist thinking to think that huh maybe this isn’t good structurally as a society and all suffer despite whether they think it’s a good idea or not
@ethicaldeviant@philliesenj0yer That is a lot of the fun of it but my issue is that these interpretations specifically ignore context and intent to address instead their unease at the depiction, i don’t like “death of the artist” type analysis as i think it strips important cultural context from them.
@SuperbWren22@philliesenj0yer The jokes they make are juxtaposed at their actual condition, joking about benefit scroungers and immigrants while being parasites themselves. No, it’s not because it was written in 2002, plenty of people were able to do irony before this enlightened age
@Italian347 It depends. Some franchises are just trying to reboot do a fresh take and make some more cash whereas some actively reflect on past work and try to add retroactive commentary, so i really think it’s just always safest to go with release order
@VVargulf@MikeMacRaeMike He was massively overweight (and late) for apocalypse now, Coppola tried to sort him out a bit and in response he went out on a rowboat and started scarfing hamburgers while FFC screamed at him to stop from the bank
@fletcherswagggg @RXIyi0r1S24jwBV The only other thing you can joke about in the show is their mental health and that’s inherently millennial. Just not a lot of options
