At least four people, including three church leaders and a driver, were reportedly killed in an alleged ambush by suspected armed militants in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Wednesday.

According to police reports, the incident took place near Kotlen and Kotzim villages along the Imphal–Tamenglong route when members of the Thadou Baptist Association were travelling from Churachandpur to Kangpokpi after attending a conference.

The deceased were identified as Rev. Dr. V. Sitlhou, former General Secretary of the Manipur Baptist Convention, Rev. Kaigoulun, Pastor Paogoulen and driver Lelen. Several others were also reportedly injured in the attack.

Reports alleged the involvement of suspected members of the ZUF-Kamson faction and VBIGs, though no official confirmation has been issued regarding the groups’ role in the incident.

Meanwhile, organisations representing the Thadou community have called for a total shutdown across Sadar Hills in Kangpokpi district in protest against the killings. Police sources also stated that around ten members of the Liangmai Naga community were reportedly being held hostage, although this has not yet been officially confirmed.

Five days after Biren's visit to Senapati, the local CSO issued an ultimatum for the Kukis to enter the Senapati district.

However, when two Poumai youths were brutally assaulted by the Arambai Tenggol Unit-18 on October 31, 2024, in Lamsang Imphal, no similar ultimatum was directed at the Meitei community. Instead, there are demands for justice from the Government of Manipur.

The peace-loving community should not be pressured into making such severe demands against a particular group on the eve of Christmas.

The central government must take immediate action to prevent any escalation that could jeopardize the peaceful coexistence of these two tribal communities.

We will not submit to their State-sponsored Genocidal Campaign against our People and our Lands. We will retaliate against any offensive attacks, whether from their communal State Machineries, Chinese PLA transported Weapons, or sophisticated Arms sanctioned by their terrorism partner #Myanmar Junta Armies!
