This goes on in every single industry. Even offline. People with power and influence keep their circles strong by cross promotion. You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. We both build up more wealth leveraging each other's audiences. Rinse, repeat.
@ChilliDoor You've been out of SEO too long ;). PIN = Private Influencer Network. Or in non-awful acronym terms: "Influencers" teaming up to promote each other as often as possible, planned or not. Forgive the very old skool pic.
"The best SEOs enjoy teaching" is an all time bad take.
Outside of creating good SOPs for your minions, being a good teacher has zero impact on your ability to rank competitive niches with less resources expended than the competition.
Which is an actual "best SEO" criteria imo.
@Techmeme@rustybrick Not making enough revenue. Time to cut rev share even further so they can stay profitable. All personal data needs to be repackaged and sold for top dollar to ad agencies. Change motto to money money, money, honey. What else did I miss???
I saw an SEO today
No own podcast
No hear me speak at X conferences
No selfies with Googlers
He just sat there.
Increasing websites' organic traffic.
Like a psychopath.
@AlanGGorilla Cool article. I don't agree that SEO tools got us here though. They just made it easier. What really got us here is Google. Why would you change what generates a great ROI? It would be incredibly challenging pitching to clients a proposition that is unknown.
@matthewhughes@voidspace That argument would pretty much destroy physics, for example.
Good SEO professionals create a hypothesis, test, and look for causation not correlation by eliminating other variables as much as possible.
They're also not the ones spamming inboxes on a daily basis for paid links
@CyrusShepard If you advertise at all online then you are paying for links. Whether its direct or indirect really doesn't matter. Big brands do it indirectly which is much more costly, but in the end it's the same thing.
@DonnieStrompf@CyrusShepard That's a pretty bold statement to make. I'd have to wholeheartedly disagree. It depends entire on the competence of the SEO and his/her budget.
@CaseyMeraz I can't comment on the specifics. If it was well known I truly think the link building community would be in major trouble. But yes I have. It's easy to replicate too by virtually anyone.
