@VOCALAfrica_@LawSocietyofKe@AmnestyKenya welcome the release of Nicholas Oyoo and Bob Njagi last night after 38 days of their enforced disappearance. We extend our appreciation to the Kenyan and Ugandan governments at the highest level and the immediate former President of Kenya for their cooperation towards their safe return. We thank their families, Free Kenya movement colleagues, human rights defenders, journalists, diplomats and active citizens who have tirelessly campaigned for this moment. Let this moment signal an important shift towards upholding the human rights of East Africans anywhere in East African Community. We are facilitating their transfer to Nairobi and will give details of their arrival for family, friends and comrades to meet them.
“We demand proof of life in Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo matter.”
That was the message from @VOCALAfrica_, @AmnestyKenya and @LawSocietyofKe to the governments of Kenya and Uganda today.
This is after disturbing news about the wellbeing of the two circulated since the weekend.
Court shockingly rules that persons abducted by armed men in broad daylight may have ‘voluntarily disappeared’! Outrageous! In 1974, President Amin appointed a Commission of Inquiry into such disappearances. Is this where we have reached 🇺🇬?
Where are they?
How are they?
Are they well?
Are they even alive?
Why is Uganda government still holding them?
Why is Kenya government silent about them?
Are we Kenyan citizens doing all we can to secure their release?
For how long will disappearances continue in East Africa?
📅 On 9 September: The confirmation of charges hearing in the #Kony case, for alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes in #Uganda, will open before the #ICC. 📺 Watch it at 10:00 (CEST). More info ➡️ https://t.co/e13YxLG9xq

Amnesty strongly condemns Israel’s deliberate killing of journalists in an air strike on a media tent in occupied Gaza City.
Anas al-Sharif and his colleagues have been the eyes and voices of Gaza. Starved and exhausted, they continued to bravely report from the frontlines, despite death threats and immense grief.
No conflict in modern history has seen a higher number of journalists killed than Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
There must be an independent and impartial investigation into the killings of Palestinian journalists, with justice and full reparation for their families. States must urgently act to bring an end to Israel’s genocide now.

“People in Gaza are neither dead nor alive — they are walking corpses.”
One in five children in #Gaza City is malnourished. Most are weak, emaciated, at risk of dying.
UNRWA teams are treating them while starving themselves — surviving on one small meal a day.
