The anti AI crowd are starting to do my head in. They clearly havenโt tried to solve hard problems with it. It can be totally amazing at both mathematical problems and mundane data translation.
@GergelyOrosz That is typical wasteful programme comment. Reading and debugging code is the flex. Without that you can only be a junior programmer and will never be happy with ai
@Scobleizer I just donโt agree. I am getting ai to solve problems i canโt solve. I am a 40 year experienced programmer with a 1st in Maths. This is just wishfull thinking.
@willcb This isnโt true. Ai make bad code for mis programmers. They make amazing code as long as you make them to make it. People who say this just arenโt using the best models
@GaryMarcus You are wrong here ai is pretty good. We are using it for really hard problems all the time. Though not Claude or codex. Gpt 5 pro on thinking mode. The rest are too random. We both complain it is replacing us and it isnโt good enough. Both things are true.
@sama Programming is a thoughtful activity. Having the extra time to review the suggested code is good not bad. Saying that totally failing to work in cursor. Too much chaff.
@karpathy Yeah I totally agree. It is really good at a certain class of coding problem. I am not so convinced about it when it isnโt in pro mode. I have taken to working on a couple of jobs at once and letting pro cook in the background.
@GergelyOrosz It is too chaotic vibe coding. Better to craft stuff with o3 manually function by function. And do the overall design consciously alongside the ai.
