1. The Starmer government has been repeatedly caught lying in claiming it has limited arms exports to Israel during the Gaza genocide. In fact, Ch4 finds there were record arms sales to Israel in June and September.

2. The only major group trying practically to stop arms exports – by targeting weapons factories in the UK – was Palestine Action. The Starmer government outlawed the group as a terrorist organisation in early July, just as the steep rise in arms sales was underway.

3. More than 2,000 people have been arrested so far on terrorism charges for peacefully protesting Palestine Action's proscription – as police forces repeatedly voice concern that resources are being overstretched to enforce the ban and normal policing is suffering.

4. The government has just announced further limitations on the right to protest, effectively letting the police decide which issues the public can protest. The police have already made clear that they want to stop protests against British government complicity in Israel's genocide, including on the matter of UK arms exports.

5. The bigger picture: All of this is being done to keep UK weapons flowing to Israel as it continues its annihilation of Gaza.

Scotland did have a 21% drop in drug overdose deaths & no changes were made to reporting this year comparing to other years.

While this is not a cause for celebration & more needs to be done rather than fight for evidence based solutions working around the world like decriminalization, overdose prevention sites, diamorphine treatment & drug checking services the Tories would rather share conspiracy theories that the figures are misleading when the reporting is more comprehensive than some other countries and certainly in the line with the rest of the UK & most comparative nations.

While not 'celebrating' we must take a minute to realize that these are the lowest figures since 2017, I have not seen one bit of consideration from Scottish Tories for the thoughts of those working as hard as they can every day to reduce these death rates like @turningpointsco @SimonCommScot @crew_2000 @SDFnews & many front line services across Scotland.

Instead "experts" @murdo_fraser @RussellFindlay1 @Douglas4Moray etc. would rather turn this into political point scoring and ignore the likes of @TransformDrugs @Drug_Science @Release_drugs @UKLEAP @FPH @globalcdp @IDPCnet @SDPcampaign @INPUD plus frontline treatment providers like @Cranstoun_org who stand ready to deliver OPC's, DAT and integrate drug checking services into those services.

While I have always pointed out previous failures made by @scotgov they have invested substantial extra money into treatment and within the confines of the Misuse of Drugs Act are delivering a much needed approach that looks to take away the stigma and allow people to access the treatment needed, as @AConstance23 said, "the right treatment, at the right time".

Calls from @ElenaWhitham & @HumzaYousaf for decriminalization backed by @HelenClarkNZ former PM of New Zealand and chair of the Global Commission on Drugs Policy and Madam Ruth Dreifuss former President of Switzerland who pioneered OPCs and DAT which led to more or less eradicating drug deaths & HIV transmissions have been completed ignored by the UK Government which would allow for drug dependency to be treated outside the criminal justice issue.

I am thankful that I have seen no-one from @ScottishLabour or @scotlibdems share this article and further to that they need to now back the calls to allow for a different framework from the 52 years old Misuse of Drugs Act, it simply is not working and can be seen from drug deaths rising across the UK every year for over a decade.

I am not naïve and know papers need clicks and politicians need to campaign against the other parties but I know people like @PaulJSweeney @agcolehamilton @GillianMacMSP @ronniecowan are people of integrity across all parties who, yes, will say more needs done but also say we need to work together, we need a new approach and we need to remember every time we talk about this we talk about a person who was loved, a mother, a father, a brother, a sister, a son or a daughter.

I for one do not want to attend any more funerals to preventable drugs deaths and with the right actions so many others would not need to attend funerals of loved ones, its time to report the truth and work together.
