#NBM forecasts leading up to 121F Litton BC (CWLY METAR) MaxT on June 29, 2021. The 50th and 90th are percentiles from the Probabilistic MaxT product. The fact that the 90th percentile was 119F on Day 6 is better than I would expect for a record high for an entire country.
In the last two weeks, I’ve spoken to 27 offices, 17 of those in person. As we transform as an agency to better protect the nation from violent storms over land, ocean, and in space, it’s critical to get feedback from everyone in the @NWS and our external partners as we develop plans over the next few years. More visits to come, so see you soon!
Here is an approximate timeline graphic to understand the potential timing and west to east progression of storms today. Note that a few thunderstorms could occur this morning, but the severe threat is tied to storm development/strengthening during these windows.

TRI-STATE TORNADO: 18 March 1925
A hundred years ago today, the deadliest tornado in U.S. history traveled from southeastern Missouri across southern Illinois and into Indiana, killing around 695 people.
Much remains unknown or uncertain, yet so much has been uncovered. 🧵
It's an odd time we live in. Severe weather outbreak was talked about 8 days out, lead times for outlooks and watches were incredible. Still, 40 people so far have died. Then, to cap it all off, online commentary is focused on this odd notion that nothing happened and it was all hype and a bust?? I'm not even sure where we start with the odd social science of this, which seems to be branching off from the actual incredible advancements in meteorology and forecasting.
One of the deadliest tornado outbreaks in recent years took place over the last 3 days, with over 47 fatalities, over 66 tornadoes, and at least 7 EF-3 and 2 EF-4 tornadoes.
This will go down as a historic tornado outbreak.
