@cturnbull1968@catturd2 1. reducing deficit means the debt still increases, just not as fast
2. "his second term" means he simply managed to spend less money than his first term. i.e. Obama is better than Obama.
@Leeleeliberty11@metalgearobama Because they believe they have influence over the government so that they can use it to rule over others.
They are not wrong.
@ElderGrindz @TheFP The "country" or people has no will, only individuals do. Thus, the country cannot want people to be healthier, only individuals can.
@sonogone@ronrule I have no issue educating members of MY community.
You are forcing me to fund the education in YOUR community. You do not get to choose what community I belong to.
@jason_pontin@bryan_caplan Pretty strong claim that NO economist believes in Marxism, but whatever.
People don't listen to Economist, it's a fact. Otherwise, they wouldn't support things like minimum wage or rent control.
The OP is about the field of Social Science, not just Economic. Read it again.
@LilyWonderland5@bryan_caplan Trying to prove Marxism is wrong is like trying to prove God doesn't exist.
It's premises and assumptions are false to begin with, yet people believe it completely on faith.
@jason_pontin@bryan_caplan 1. some economists do
2. most people don't care what economists think about economic policies
3. the article is talking about Social Science as a whole, not just Economics
@GenericMage1127 @magattew Exactly! The government knows what's best! She should just shut-up and let the government tell her how much fish each person should have.
@AlGoody421@SEIUPres 1. what is "minimal" and who decides?
2. it is economically ignorant to believe "majority" of people can't afford to live. A quick analysis of US income quintile will prove that.
3. If you want me to take care of you, you have to give up your freedom to choose, like a child.
@SEIUPres Google "US income by quintile" and you'll see this can't possibly be true.
Unless the "minimal" quality of life keeps increasing as your income increases. In that case, you can say that about 100% of U.S. households.
