good stuff from @ggwash. The Fort Dupont renovation has been an insane fiasco. Now that it's complete, the high demand for ice time is bringing a citywide annoyance into focus: DPR's policy of keeping rec facilities closed for much of the weekends https://t.co/KbHyK3bBZR
@SafeSidewalksDC@Lib_Development@2024dion I initially thought the same thing, but I traveled with an 89 year old out of there last summer. The bus was the only way we were able to make the trip via Metro. It’s at least good that they have the option for those that need it.
⚠️ Due to inclement weather in the area, the Freedom 250 Great American State Fair and FIFA World Cup 2026™ Fan Zone will be temporarily postponed and attendees are encouraged to seek shelter.
The safety of our guests, staff, and partners remains our top priority. We are actively monitoring conditions and will provide updates as they become available.
@livpach25 One idea would be to turn a block earlier onto Webster St, then left on Georgia Ave. The C75 already stops in front of the library, so riders who usually get on at Kansas Ave and Varnum St could walk one block over to the library to get on C75/D40/D4X.
@livpach25 I think the bus used to go down Kansas Ave and turned directly on Georgia Ave because the no left turn sign says “except buses.” Apparently there were complaints about the bus blocking the crosswalk so they now use Varnum St to turn left but cars always block that intersection.
@JoeySchmittPhD@maustermuhle Correct and there wasn’t even a continuous sidewalk on the south side of the street until this project. People had to walk in the street or the grass.
@llewhinkes@FeverPotomac They aren’t even supposed to be able to use them at all! The City even has mandated the providers require photo ID submissions at certain times.
It’s extremely sad that TriMet needs to secure its elevators like this to keep them clean and safe, but it’s the reality of the contemporary United States. Perhaps something for other transit agencies to consider.
@timothywhite77 The next two weekends, the single tracking is between Silver Spring and Forest Glen; not sure why they couldn’t have traded one of those weekends to accommodate the events
