Virtually all of the good things you read coming out of labor unions in the US re: Palestine were the result of workers standing up to union leadership.

A British surgeon who treated dying and injured children in Gaza says his evidence of war crimes was ignored by Keir Starmer.
Professor Nick Maynard talks to us about his experiences, including how he had to watch babies starve to death after Israel’s deliberate blockade of food, and how Starmer skipped meetings with him and other doctors who had worked in Gaza amid the ongoing genocide.
The UN also released two reports last month confirming a genocide and the IDF’s targeting of children, yet the UK government still remains an ally of Israel and refuses to use the term ‘genocide’ for the years long assault on Palestine.
Professor Maynard also shares his experiences in a new film, Life Support. Find a screening here:

After pro-Palestine philanthropist Fergie Chambers’ arrest, people in Gaza are panicking on how they’ll raise donations for fundraisers, as Chambers has likely been the largest individual donor to Gaza fundraisers, whether to personal GoFundMe’s or grassroots humanitarian aid groups.
■ This isn’t about one person being a savior. It’s the reality on the ground in Gaza that life depends on donations from outside, as the Israeli siege intensifies, UNRWA is gutted of funding, and a few thousand dollars to a GoFundMe can make the difference of life or death.
■ The Sameer Project (@sameerproject) said “Fergie’s donations are the reason we have a bakery that feeds thousands of people per month. His funds also helped provide meals, water and medication for displaced Palestinians. Now he’s being persecuted for this. Advocate for Fergie’s release now!”
■ A solidarity fundraiser (@oct7_apr14_oct1) posted, “Fergie has been covering the costly medical care for this Gazan evacuee in Egypt who needs $8000 every two months to prevent kidney failure. If Fergie is imprisoned she can die of kidney failure like her little sister did! Her life depends on Fergie’s help.”
■ Wissam Shabat (@wissamshabat), the brother of martyred journalist Hossam Shabat, said, “Fergie and Stella (his wife) have been the main reason a lot of families in Gaza can afford the basics everyday. I have seen the help they give. Direct support to starving families and they are persecuting him for it. Full solidarity with Fergie and shame on those who slander him. Will YOU step up and support us now? We have lost a giant but we can get him back. SPEAK UP. We love you Fergie from Gaza.”

“Israel now believes it is successfully engaging in a final offensive to shatter the Palestinian community in East Jerusalem, to fragment and atomize it and transform it into a demographic reality with no political or national significance,” said the author Mouin Rabbani, “as in any other situation, cultural institutions are central and integral to sustaining communal life and providing it with its identity. This explains their targeting.”
I was interviewed by @HalaGorani for her @newlinesmag article on Israel's assault on Palestinian cultural life in Jerusalem.

The world wants me to die.
My incurable disease diagnosis became global news. It was omnipresent on social media and 1,900 articles were written in a matter of days.
Many were saddened.
However, joy dominated the commentary.
People pointed to schadenfreude, the pleasure of another's failure. Yes, there’s that. There is a special place in people’s hearts that loves to see others fail, especially when that person’s presence threatens their own psychological stability in some way or helps them feel better about themselves.
But, if you look over the social media commentary about me, you’ll see that pattern:
“he deserved it.”
I deserved it because I challenged death. The crowd was running a deeply rooted psychological script that represents the oldest, most deeply embedded stories of human culture.
This was the first story ever written down, 4,000 years ago. Gilgamesh sought eternal life after losing someone he loved, only to have the plant of youth stolen by a serpent as he bathed. Leaving him to accept his mortality.
Asclepius became so skilled at rejuvenation that he raised the dead. As punishment, Zeus struck him down with a thunderbolt to enforce life and death authority.
This is the story of Jesus. Pontius Pilate offered a choice between a thief and the immortalist, and the crowd demanded the execution.
People need this story conclusion to keep themselves sane. The challenger must lose and the loss must appear deserved. It’s a shield of self preservation.
For if death is inevitable, their existence and that of their loved ones is justified and unavoidable. If death is not inevitable, nothing about their reality is safe.
I occupy the same philosophical and archetypal position as Gilgamesh, Asclepius and Jesus.
This statement will draw outrage and accusations of blasphemy, hubris and narcissism. Nevertheless, it’s the pattern that has repeated itself for thousands of years.
Death has been the omnipresent concern of the human race. It encapsulates our greatest fears, joy and curiosities. The discourse around it changes over time; however, the fundamentals remain unchanged.
What’s different about this moment, that is unlike any other moment, is that physical death may no longer be inevitable.
What if I didn’t deserve it?
And what if I am your ally, and not a threat?
Everyone should pay attention to this

🇺🇸 UAW’s Shawn Fain Says Gaza Ceasefire Stance Fueled DOJ Probe
The Justice Department has opened a grand jury investigation into allegations that UAW President Shawn Fain improperly used his authority to benefit his fiancée and retaliated against union official Rich Boyer, according to internal documents reviewed by Reuters.
Fain, who is seeking re-election, denied the claims Sunday and said Boyer fed the union’s federal monitor “false allegations.” He also accused monitor Neil Barofsky of holding a political grudge because the UAW backed a ceasefire in Gaza, citing a heated 2024 dispute over the union’s anti-war position.
Fain has hired lawyers and said he is considering all legal options.
