The real luxuries of adult life aren't what the ads sell you.

Time to think without a notification interrupting you. The ability to say no without explaining yourself. A calendar that reflects what you actually value, not what someone else scheduled for you.

A full night of sleep. A long walk with no destination. A conversation that doesn't end because someone has to get back to their phone.

Most of these cost nothing. Most of them have been priced out of ordinary life anyway — not by money, but by attention.

That's the part worth sitting with. The scarcest things in adult life aren't expensive. They're protected. They belong to the people who decided, on purpose, what their time was for.

If you want them, you don't need more income. You need a schedule that defends them.

This is why critics say "the cruelty is the point." If you want to argue that some aid program is not worth taxpayer dollars, go for it.

But blocking life-saving humanitarian aid that has already been paid for is actually creating govt waste in order to deprive the recipients.
