💢 Israeli soldiers shot dead a WCK aid driver with his hands raised, witnesses say

Israeli troops shot and killed Ahmad Nasser Salim, a 30-year-old Palestinian driver hauling aid for World Central Kitchen, after ordering him out of his truck on the Philadelphi route near Rafah, the Guardian reported, citing witnesses and the Gaza Truck Drivers Association.

The convoy, pre-coordinated with the UN World Food Programme, WCK and the Israeli military, stopped after a breakdown, according to the company that employed Salim. Witnesses say soldiers pulled the drivers out, beat them and forced them to strip before shooting Salim in the head as he stood with his hands raised. “This was an on-site execution of a civilian driver who complied with all instructions,” said Jihad Salim of the Gaza Transportation Companies Association, a relative, who said Salim held all Israeli-approved permits.

In an account published by the Jerusalem Post, witnesses said Salim was ordered to approach an Israeli military jeep and walked toward it unarmed, wearing the orange high-visibility vest drivers must wear under procedures coordinated with Israeli authorities, before raising his hands above his head and being shot once at close range.

Another driver told the Guardian the soldiers could not understand Salim’s Arabic and “suddenly, they shot him.” The Israeli military, which routinely lies after killing civilians in Palestine and Lebanon, claimed a driver ran at troops who identified a threat, and that the incident is under investigation.
