Get ready for the latest episode of our Wildest Moments podcast - it's LIVE!
For Sunday Times bestselling author @chloedaltonuk, a chance encounter with a tiny, orphaned leveret on a quiet country lane became a life-changing experience - one that would reshape how she saw the natural world.
Host @Benfogle speaks with Chloe about rescuing and raising the young hare during lockdown, forming an extraordinary bond while learning to respect its wild nature.
Joining the conversation is ZSL wildlife veterinarian Dr Katharina Seilern-Macpherson, who works on ZSL’s Garden Wildlife Health project - a national programme monitoring the health of Britain’s native wildlife.
From hares to hedgehogs, they reflect on how wildlife health is important to all life on earth.
We inspire, inform and empower people to protect and restore wildlife - and sometimes that starts with one extraordinary story.

Thresher shark reported dead stranded near Clovelly, Devon at the weekend. Our colleagues at @DevonWildlife Marine Strandings Network tried to recover it for #CSIOfTheSea examination, but unfortunately the tide took it... If anyone spots it in the area, please let us know!
Recovered a 3.1m juvenile male Sowerby's beaked whale back to @ZSLScience last Tuesday for #CSIOfTheSea exam. Found dead stranded near Weymouth, Dorset- pretty skinny, stomachs empty, evidence of live stranding. Nutritionally compromised out of habitat animal, more work to follow

Interesting report from our colleagues at @ManxCetaceans- grey seal seen feeding on a harbour porpoise off Isle of Man coast in July. Help us and our friends at @_SMRU_ and please do report any similar cases, as we're keen to learn more about this issue! https://t.co/waNqhextog
📢📘New Book Alert! Congratulations to Sasan Fereidouni, who edited the book “Ecology of Wild Bird Diseases”, published by Routledge and CRC Press this summer. Read more about it on our website: https://t.co/BLEozRwry8
“Zoonotic diseases are often discussed in terms of host-pathogen interactions. Understanding the complex animal-human-environment interface remains a significant challenge.”
Very interesting and utterly relevant new study!!

The scientific method seeks truth through evidence, not polls or popular opinions. That means "being wrong, and fearlessly so, is part and parcel of robust enquiry."
That means defending scientists' right to change their minds with changing evidence.

April is Citizen Science Month, and at Garden Wildlife Health we’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all the citizen scientists that make our research possible (1/2)
Over the last quarter, the team and I have recovered numerous harbour porpoises found stranded along the Sussex coast for #CSIOfTheSea examination- all have had pathology consistent with attack by one or more bottlenose dolphins.
Birds in your back garden are up against the threat of harmful disease. They need your help.
Our @wildlife_health experts, together with partners - are working tirelessly to protect them, but they need your support. There are two huge things you can do to help these incredible creatures in need:
🐦 Clean your bird feeders regularly - this simple action will help prevent the spread of trichomonosis and other diseases between feathered friends in your back garden.
🐦 Be vigilant and report any signs of illness or dead birds to our Garden Wildlife Health team. You can read more about what to look out for here: https://t.co/MbKE4kIrpo and report any sick or dead wildlife, here: https://t.co/AXG78vh4k3
When we come together, everything is possible. By working together we can help prevent the spread of avian disease. Please share to help us spread the word! 📢

Together with @RSPBScience & @_BTO, we aim to learn more about transmission & mitigation of finch trichomonosis. Please report any sightings of ill-health in garden birds to us at https://t.co/SRdXmhO4ZU - Maybe your garden can be our next study site?
