When it comes to Chain Fusion on ICP, the canister has to be compatible with the blockchain network it's interacting with

So you might be curious, how are Ethereum addresses generated from an ICP Canister 🤔?

Let’s see how 👇

The first step is to obtain an ECDSA public key associated with your canister, which is done by calling the “ecdsa_public_key” method from the management canister

Once you’ve gotten the public key, you convert it to a Secp256k1 format, you then get the encoded point of the public key in uncompressed format and convert the encoded point to a byte array

The next step is to compute the Keccak-256 hash of the public bytes, then convert the last 20 bytes of the hash to an Ethereum address

Once the address has been converted, you then convert it as a checksum address using the to_checksum function

And finally, this is how the whole function looks like

And that is just a small section of the multichain interoperability of ICP.

Generating these Ethereum addresses bridges the gap between the two blockchain ecosystems which opens up room for a wide range of possibilities
