Low voter turnout is a bigger deal than it gets made out to be — and everyone in government and education needs to wake up to the reality that anything under 50% is an enormous and unacceptable policy failure.
The democratic process cannot survive if this trend continues.
Please be reminded that the Ontario government's refusal to #RepealBill124 and legislate TEN permanent #PaidSickDays is contributing to the burn out of healthworkers and thus, the collapse of Ontario's health system. Don't let anyone tell you they've "done quite a lot already".
The Ottawa Trans Libary is now open in Hintonburg! @TransOttawa is a library and community space for trans and gender non-conforming folks, and is located at 1104 Somerset Street West. Join us in welcoming to #WellingtonWest!
I see many online wanting to "go back" and lamenting about when #CanadaDay was "just a fun celebration" but for many people across this land, #CanadaDay has always been about colonialism and White Supremacy.
For them, there's no "going back" and there shouldn't be for us either.
Seeing lots of calls for an abortion law in Canada. No. Stop saying that. Abortion is healthcare. It’s is protected by the Health Act. A stand-alone abortion law is vulnerable to being overturned. We are witnessing that today.
With the release of today’s data showing use of force is more commonly used against racialized people, the Toronto Police have done a good job showing us why it's more important than ever that we #DefundThePolice & reallocate funds to housing/social programs for our communities.
For those who don't know; the name Ottawa comes from the Algonquin word Adàwe, meaning "to trade."
Where Ottawa is now was a major trading hub for Indigenous folks from all over Turtle Island and accessible by waterways and is still unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin territory.
Many Ontarians are waking up broken hearted today. But please, remember who needs you to keep pushing: Health workers. Children with autism. Elders in LTC. People with Disabilities. Our public healthcare system...Today is day 1 of a long fight. You are needed more than ever. ✊🏾
I was contacted by an ODSP employment provider in Ontario who asked me to help get a message out about Ford's privatization of our social services and healthcare, so they could be anonymous. It's important and will be a big thread. These are their words: #onpoli
Shoutout to electrical workers of @IBEWLocal636 who have been working day in and day out making sure Ottawans across this city get their power back after the destructive #ONStorm.
To all the line workers working overtime - thank you.
Today is #IDAHOBIT2022. It is also a Worldwide Celebration of Sexual and Gender Diversities. The theme, Our Bodies, Our Lives, Our Rights highlights everyone’s rights to live their sexualities and express their gender(s) freely and free from harassment, violence and intimidation!

If you don’t want to pile into your local mask-optional school gym to cast your ballot for the provincial election, you can now register for mail-in voting. Also a good idea for anyone who worries that they may be self-isolating on Election Day. https://t.co/s1nKcpGPd0
Let's make one thing clear. Anti-racism happens through investment into education, healthcare, housing & COMMUNITY. Not into endless policing that is simply a bandaid to the wound.
Making that bandaid Black or Brown won't stop the bleeding.

Good morning Freedom people. Just a reminder to give people who wear masks the same freedom you wanted and leave them the fuck alone.
Unless it wasn't actually about freedom and you were just mad that you weren't in control anymore.
An Indigenous woman whose 2-day-old infant was apprehended by police, has brought a class action against Manitoba, alleging birth alerts are illegal, unconstitutional & motivated by discriminatory stereotypes about parenting capabilities of persons of certain backgrounds.
