Asked Tobi Amusan about what's behind her improvement this year and why she was chose to wear a long-distance spike tonight.
Here's what the new world record holder had to say.

@spikesonly@mboyle1959@Physical_Prep@bmarcello13@EatSleepTrain_ Iโd be thinking a soft crash pad as opposed to a concrete wall. But maybe the idea has too many drawbacks and might not actually be practical. Itโs just something that came to mind when Michael mentioned the space issue.
@mboyle1959@spikesonly@Physical_Prep@bmarcello13@EatSleepTrain_ I havenโt tried it myself as weโre usually out on a track but if you go to 1:28 in this clip youโll see what I mean. It might be a way of bringing the fly zone closer to the athlete. https://t.co/TYAfjMvtdK
@mboyle1959@spikesonly@Physical_Prep@bmarcello13@EatSleepTrain_ Have you ever considered an assisted start whereby the athlete can get to a higher speed quicker? Could be useful when stuck for space. Granted the acceleration component is taken away, but flyโs tend to be a Max V exercise anyway so it might work.
Re-reading Charlie Francis this week...reinforcing our approach on speed development especially in young athletes to positively impact the type- II muscle fibers is critical!
Run fast, lift heavy, rest oftenโก๏ธ
No Tennis Players don't sprint 30 plus meters during tennis- they do short bursts. BUT, the benefit of training the sprint will build great feet and ankle stiffness to be quicker, build great core stability to move more efficient, and be the best plyo work they can do. Sprint!
