Said before and I’ll say it again…
One of my favorite things about sports is what it demands from any athlete who aspires to be great.
Speaking specifically to baseball, but absolutely relatable to other sports, is IT DOES NOT CARE about your feelings!!
• Feeling sorry for yourself doesn’t work.
• Feeling angry about others performance, teammates and umpires, doesn’t work.
• Complaining about being sore doesn’t work.
• Whining about playing conditions doesn’t work.
• You have a headache, your opponents don’t care.
• You have a sprained ankle, your opponents don’t care.
• You’re in a slump, your opponents are not going to go easy on you.
• You’re unhappy with playing time, moping around isn’t going to help, you better find a way to get and be better.
There is no place for soft in the game.
The higher you get in the game, it demands mental stability. There’s nowhere to hide. Your weaknesses will be exposed faster than ever before.
As coaches and parents, one of our main goals should be to help our kids and players with this absolute. And WE better be the example of mentally stability. If we aren’t, WE are part of their weakness.
🚨 2-Strike Approach Tips:
• Choke Up
• Widen Stance
• Move up in the Box
• Get Closer to the Plate
• Get Lower to the Ground
⭐️ Explanations on each below:
Haruta Endo!
👀 Keep an eye on this one! With a hit in all but one game this season, he's tearing it up at the plate with a .458 avg. He’s put in the work and he’s earning it! One of the hardest workers you’ll find #BirdUp 🐦
Leaders! Don’t avoid a necessary conversation because it makes you or the other person uncomfortable.
Discomfort is a catalyst that signals something isn’t right and someone needs to make a change.
Don’t flinch. To avoid the discomfort is to fail to lead.
Sean Miller said, "The standard is the standard."
"That's not my job to please people. My job is to hold that f*** standard right here, and not ever, ever, ever give in to it."
Great teams set high standards and live to them.

Locked in 🎯 A great pitcher knows the key to success is being “singularly focused” on every pitch. Whether it’s the count, the batter, the situation, or your mechanics. Distractions can cost you the game! Stay present. Stay sharp. Stay in control 💪

Struggling with creating depth on your curveball?
The major 🔑 is keeping your hand supinated through release.
Middle and index fingers should be in front of the ball at release.
Karate chop as @BauerOutage says.

It’s important to be able to load your hips in a tight window.
The pitching load is similar to archery. The drawback length determines the potential force of the arrow.
Better load = more tension = more force
You can think, “hide the hip” from the catcher.

🚨 Korean Pitching Movement Drills
• Emphasis on a stable front leg
+
• Keeping the back leg loaded
⭐️ The legs are the engine. Flexibility & strength in your lower body is one of the healthiest way to create more power/velocity.
Staying tall (slight bend) on the back leg into leg lift allows you to accelerate faster down the mound.
"Catch" yourself as go into your load.
Pre-mature bend in the knee can cause pushing instead of rotating into foot plant.

‼️ Pitching Mechanical Assessment‼️
1️⃣ Foot Mechanics & Drive Leg: The back foot provides key insight into body direction and rotational movement, influencing kinematic sequencing (hip-shoulder separation) and overall mechanics. This impacts timing and body control.
2️⃣ Ankle Dorsiflexion: Limited ankle mobility affects heel connection and stride mechanics. Poor dorsiflexion often leads to “quad-dominant” throwers, which works for some athletes but doesn’t work for others. It can make it harder to maintain proper stride progression and pelvic stability. Focusing on the adductors helps improve the drive leg and rotational function.
3️⃣ Heel Connection Loss: Poor dorsiflexion can cause a loss of heel connection, shifting weight onto the toes which in some cases with athletes, they tend to then fight rotation or fight across their body because their first initial movement was tipping too much towards their toes where they now have to redirect their rotational direction losing out on the linear component of the throwing delivery. Again some athletes do a better job at compensating and re routing their body even if they lose heel connection a bit too early in the delivery to still produce elite stuff where some other athletes will have a harder time with their mechanics where reverse engineering or shifting their focus as to how they re learn the skill of lower half mechanics which can help in the long run
4️⃣ Kinematic Sequencing: The goal is to improve the timing of hip to shoulder separation or the skill of one’s ability to disassociate the pelvis from the upper half. This overall can dramatically help enhance one’s velocity and command. The better we can enhance this skill the better we will be when it comes to health. The more disruption we have in the kinetic chain, the more we pull the arm away from early trunk rotation, the longer we get with the arm only increases the distraction forces that happens in the throw which can dramatically increase the risk of injury. So, overall when assessing mechanics starting from the ground up can give us great understanding as to how one’s sequences his body and moves down the mound.
I always get hung up on the word "balance" in describing key aspects of pitching mechanics.
I think of pitching mechanics as intentionally moving through points of imbalance to generate momentum and then leverage those moments of imbalance into well timed energy transfer
