I haven't looked into that time period enough to consider if "Alas" is warranted to some degree. My understanding is that it helped to stop the persecutions of Christians (Catholics). For that time period, making it official may have been reasonable.

It is quite a claim. That doesn't make it untrue. It takes due diligence and prayerful reflection to look into this claim. Many have gone on such a journey.

He's already made the transition from atheism to belief in God/Christianity, which is very commendable. So, I think he has what it takes for the next step. It's between him and God how such a step could proceed. I wish him well.

@ClarkeMicah I asked the question to see what you would think if you pondered if it's true. It could reveal to you the logic and care of Jesus in establishing such a Church for us to have all through the years.

@ClarkeMicah It is quite a claim, but the evidence is there, it just takes an open mind and due diligence. Asking the Holy Spirit to guide you is also recommended.

...that's when the Church had her fullness to carry on her mission. Because the Holy Spirit guides and protects the Catholic Church.

@PaulinusOfTrier Latin should be part of the curriculum of the seminary. There are still sung parts of the Mass in Latin and some Catholics can sing hymns in Latin. We did Latin at school.

@TamsinLisa @andrewdoyle_com Persevere! I started reading again. At first, it was very slow going. I picked a challenging book and had to stop reading it for a few weeks. I came back and finished it. Look for classics to read. I like to listen to podcasts that help me understand the book/author I 'm reading.

I think Henry VIII is a potent example to learn from in how not to overreact to disappointments. He made having a male heir too important. If he had been able to trust in God more, he could have grown in virtue and wisdom.
