Was running late for work this morning and luckily caught this segment on Ottawa Morning with Robyn Bresnahan - Feb. 23, 2023: Untold history of queer soldiers in WWI https://t.co/E0jsoxOjCG
What are your fav pre, during & post reading strategies for high schoolers? I have some Learning Strats students needing explicit instruction. Tagging @AssessmentGeek@Purpledebber b/c you're the best, & I know you have ideas + a fantastic network that might help me get started.
Thx to Mr. Menla for organising an onsite field trip for senior CWS students. Classes boarded @holodomortour to learn about Holodomor, the famine-genocide in Ukraine between 1932 & 1933.
We’ve received thousands of questions on the Geneva Conventions.
So, we’re going to break down the rules of war you need to know right now.
All states have signed these – and are legally obligated to follow them.

Read @lindsaymattick's Finding Winnie to my Grade 10s this morning. It was a segue into Canadian soldiers' experience on WWI. Got a round of applause after. Everyone still loves storytime, no matter how old you are🤗
Friends, it's been a difficult 24 hours. Staff harassed for meals. A service user and security guard assaulted. Through it all, you have donated and filled our hearts with gratitude. Every cent will support people experiencing homelessness. Thank you. See our statement ⬇️
@MaryBourassa We have one in our Resource Room but I'm assuming it's because it's an interior room with no window. I do not have one in my classroom, where the windows are over my head and require me to climb on top of desks to open.
Dear @BearGrylls, my 5 yr old says he is just like you and won't eat with a fork. Can you please confirm that you do, in fact, eat with a fork when sitting at the dinner table. Also he would like you to land a helicopter in our backyard tomorrow😉
Join @SpiritBear & read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action in this free child friendly version. Residential School survivors asked all of us to make sure this work gets done. Top Calls to Action are about Indigenous children today. https://t.co/6xtMN2dhqx
One of my #SummerGoals is to learn more about Indigenous history so I can do a better job when I teach CHC2P next year (1st time in over 10 yrs). This article in today's @TorontoStar is a good start for me: https://t.co/51rlvshQs8
@HCentennialPS@OCDSB Overheard "Mme, I want to be with you forever" this morning on @mmelawson20's last meet. Melted my heart (and it wasn't my child). This house knows Mme Lawson and the grade 1 team rocked remote learning.
Took a cue from @AssessmentGeek & asked my Gr 12 Personal Life Mgmt class to meme their year. It was cathartic for them to reflect back on a chaotic year. They demonstrated persistence, resilience, and a good sense of humour. 100% engagement & met the deadline too;)
Thanks to @ONFE_ROPE & @ja_canada for connecting my Gr 12s with Brock Houghton. He kick started our unit on Managing Finances & advised us there are professionals to help us, organization is key & to have a plan so we can grow our $$$! Since 10am I've updated my TFSA and RESPs!
I took the liberty of adding 2 wks on mental wellness, since it's not mentioned in the curriculum for gr 12 Personal Life Mgmt! It's shocking what students have witnessed or experienced. It's also shocking the conversations some have had or have never had. #MentalHealthMatters
Just curious:
Teachers, please RT this if you teach your students about things and topics that are NOT in the curriculum or the textbook you use because you know it’s very important that they learn it.
Thank-you to @mwrichardson78 from the Digital Empowerment Project (https://t.co/NUNuRup6F9) for joining my Gr 12 Personal Life Mgmt students this morning. We learned some valuable lessons about cyber safety. We were advised to trust but verify and given some tools to do that.
Thank you to Carrie Ewen from @jhs_cerc for mtg with my Gr 12 Personal Life Mgmt students. They've learned so much about improving their résumés, job interviews, self care & why it's important. Carrie is so passionate about what does, what a valuable connection for my students!
