I want to thank Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani for a very good conversation today during his visit to the @UN in NYC. We appreciated his direct answers to all our questions. I have to say that we sensed in his every word the absolute determination of the Syrian people to build a better future. We told him we only have one goal: peace, security and prosperity for all Syrians and peace with all Syria’s neighbors. Joining me in the meeting was Rabbi Abraham Cooper from the @simonwiesenthal Center in Los Angeles, and also the former chair of the U.S. Commission for International Religious Freedom.

All of Butcher Assad’s blood money frozen under US sanctions must be confiscated and repurposed for the reconstruction of Syria. Syrians have suffered enough and deserve a FUTURE.

The U.S. must engage with the new Syrian government ASAP—before Russia and China take the lead. Lifting sanctions should be the top priority. Delaying action will only weaken U.S. influence in the region. Sanctions is impacting the people not only the new government.
