In soil some bacteria are over 10x smaller than their neighbors which influences their physiology and trophic interactions. Our new paper discusses how the size and #biodiversity of microbes determines carbon use efficiency in #soil. https://t.co/Xv94cZfck9.
webR v0.1.0 has just been released! I'm super excited to see what people create by using webR in their own projects 😃. The docs are at https://t.co/VhzF2Co3t4 and I've written an introductory blog post talking more about the kind of things webR can do at https://t.co/56ficIti3l.
Thanks @wvudavis for this video about our work in the canopy of the PNW!!!

dplyr 1.1.0 is coming soon!! 🎉🎉
We are so excited to introduce you to the new features we've been working on, including:
- Temporary inline grouping with `.by`
- Non-equi joins
- Faster `arrange()`
And SO much more! #rstats

@agronomistag These papers (a perspective and a review) were pretty good for outlining the scientific issues, potential, and way forward (hint: GMOs). This was assigned reading for my microbial ecology-based qualifying exams. https://t.co/17xODRDE4W

@agronomistag As a microbial ecologist I see sentiments like that often. This is in a popular microbiology textbook, mainly for use by plant and human pathologists/microbiologists. Yet included this paragraph with no citations about how we should use Burkholderia instead of those "toxic cmpds"
Don’t wait to learn programming to start analyzing your genomics datasets. There are plenty of graphical user interface tools that require 0 programming knowledge. Every student deserves to experience that aha moment and the joy of discovery 😀! Here are some of my fav tools- 🧵
@TuomasJMattila@agronomistag Hi Tuomas,
Thank you for reading! I actually agree with your comment. In retrospect, we may have changed it to "overgrazing" instead. We intended to mean practices like having high stocking rates and low rest periods.
Microbial trophic dynamics-lovers: I’ll be talking about a really fun microcosm experiment I got to do on Thursday afternoon at #ESA2022 in Montreal.

@ZacFreedman
@wvudavis
The experiment will be at least 4 years long and we'll be measuring just about every soil health metric we are capable of. Also, PVC fencing is awesome for semi-permanent experimental use.
I'll also take this opportunity to share some pictures from our field work this past spring setting up one-acre plots on 17 farms around the state for an applied pasture renovation (plant diversity) study funded by a Conservation Innovation Grant @USDA_NRCS
Plot selection, soil sampling, seedbed preparation, plant ID, no-till drill seeding, lab work... simply not possible without awesome friends like @HereBeSpiders11 and @jenni_kane (and twitter-less Ronnie, Kayla, and others).
