Habibi, some facts about the demographics of the eleventh parliament.

Education:

1. In terms of education, the eleventh parliament is the “most educated” in our history.

2. The house has more PhDs, 16, than A’level certificate holders who are just 14.

3. The majority of MPs, 203 in total, have a Master's Degree. This is followed by those with Bachelor's Degrees, 196.

4. Only 5 MPs have a certificate, 40 have diplomas and 47 have a postgraduate diploma.

So, those that keep advocating for a change so that the minimum qualification for parliament is a degree, guess it wouldn't make any difference at this point.

Gender.

1. The large majority - 368 - of MPs are male. That makes up to 66.2 per cent of the house. Only 188 (33.8 per cent) are female.

So, is the affirmative action policy that ring-fences one seat for a female per district working? Is it time to make changes to it - eg you can only run under it for one term?

Age.

1. The majority of MPs were aged between 39 and 49 at the time of swearing-in. This group accounts for 41. 2 per cent of parliament.

2. The youngest MP elected in 2021 was 24 years old, and the oldest was 82 years old.

3. There were 8 MPs aged between 24 and 28 at the time of swearing-in.

4. The mean age of parliament was 46.8 years at the time of swearing-in.

5. To disaggregate further, more than half of parliament - 51.6 per cent, were above 46 years. MPs between 36 and 45 years made 36.1 per cent of the house while MPs below 35 made 12.3 per cent of the house.
