It's #FieldPhotoFriday!
To enable methane-sensing drone flights at a wetland environment in interior Alaska (@BNZ_LTER), our @usgs_climate and @EPAresearch collaborators placed large wood planks onto the wet soil, creating dry, flat areas for takeoff and landing.
Scientists traditionally monitor methane emissions using ground-based flux towers and surface chambers. While these methods provide valuable data, they are resource-intensive & done in limited areas. UAS may enable scientists to extend their monitoring of wetlands across Alaska.
I'm hiring a postdoc in wetland modeling, focused on process-based simulations of coastal and high-latitude wetlands in a land surface model at regional continental scales. Work on a cool problem with a supportive and collaborative group!

🚨3yr postdoc with the @UAFGI Permafrost Laboratory focused on improving our ability to understand and model #permafrost response to climate and disturbances (with working link this time!)

@LifesJustPeaty@HomeDepot The most dreaded question in Home Depot: "Well, what do you need it for?". Truly, most of the time, they don't want to know 😁
Has anyone flown #drones on the Blue List (https://t.co/AJlZzM60Lx) for ecology research? We want to automate aerial surveys at specified image overlap, cache maps/background imagery/flight plans for no-cell-service areas, and fly with terrain awareness. Please RT!
🚨 Call for abstracts is now open for the 2024 International Conference on Permafrost! With almost 50 sessions to choose from, this is an opportunity you don't want to miss! Submit a 250 word abstract before May 15th.
