Adjoining triangle is isosceles:

side a=5m
side b=4m
side c=5 m

Divide into two equal right triangles:

b=(4m)/2
c=5m

(c²)-(b²)=a²

(25m² )-(4m²)=21m²

h=sqrt(21m²)=4.583m

A=b*h

2(4.583m)=9.166m²

A=25m²+9.166m²

25m²+9.166m²=34.166m²

@threesfusion @neybitxh The vagueness was a wise choice. She was a brilliant writer, & the novel still holds up. I’m only saying the trope of lightning-harnessing machinery isn’t the huge leap it’s made out to be

But I do prefer the fire & reverse decomposition scene from the 1910 Edison Pictures film

@threesfusion @neybitxh In chapter 2, paragraphs 9 and 10, Frankenstein speaks explicitly about electricity and Galvanism.

In the famous “dreary night in November” scene, he also talks of infusing the “spark of being into the lifeless thing”.

Promethean? Definitely. Galvanic? A reasonable inference

@threesfusion @neybitxh If I recall correctly, Frankenstein realizes (basically reverse engineers) the secret of reanimation while spending the night in a crypt to watch bodies decompose. Mary Shelley remains vague about how the Creature is animated, but mentions chemical processes, implying Galvanism

Luigi Galvani, the phenomenon’s namesake, studied this in the context of biology, believing it was the “élan vital”, or vital force separating animate from inanimate matter
