The Curious Case of Rameshwaram Cafe:
Why do people happily pay ₹115 for a Dosa
Why is there so much hype?
I dug into the comments and spoke to regulars to decode the frenzy.
Is it the Taste? Debatable.
While good, several outlets match the taste profile (if not the ghee quantity).
Is it the Price? Absolutely not.
It is arguably one of the expensive options.
Taza Thindi: ₹35
Vidyarthi Bhavan: ₹75
Rameshwaram Cafe: ₹115
So, why do people queue up to pay 2-3x the market rate? It comes down to two non-negotiables:
Quality & Hygiene (The Visual Proof) 🧼 This is the biggest differentiator. Many consistently cite transparency. You can see the food preparation. In a market where "kitchen hygiene" is often a black box, Rameshwaram turns the kitchen into a showroom.
Consistency (The 'No-Surprise' Metric) 📉 The food tastes the same. Every. Single. Time. It is measured and engineered. People aren't just buying a dosa; they are buying the absence of disappointment.
Reliability > Occasional Brilliance.
The "Premium Effect" at Play - This is where psychology wins. The high price tag actually works in their favor. When a brand charges a premium (₹115 vs ₹35), it triggers the Premium Effect: we subconsciously associate the higher cost with superior safety and quality standards.
A couple of other places I have seen this happen - Haldirams (open kitchen, same experience), Chai Point
The price acts as a signal. We aren't just paying for the batter and ghee; we are paying a "Trust Premium" to know that corners weren't cut.
The Verdict: Rameshwaram Cafe proves that in the modern market, Certainty is a more valuable commodity than Cost.
If I hit this dictation button after sending a text and it beeps and stops my music one more time,
I’m gonna find everyone at apple and put them in a rear naked choke hold
Even if I turn off dictation I somehow hit the voice note thing
The send button should not have multiple functions in the same spot

@josephradhik ..give up a high paying job and risk it all, I could take a swing and risk it too. Now, I'm an ARRI certified cinematographer who's still learning and still inspired by this man!
@josephradhik I know Joseph Radhik from a photographer acquaintance who told me about a breakout photographer-turned-IIM graduate called Joseph Radhik who was 20 weddings old. As a kid who was expected to be an engineer for his entire adolescent life, I knew at that moment - that if he could..
@saffrontrail I think the root cause is that the dealers who purchase the yield from the farmers have been historically hoarding the onions to control the market price. Sitting too long in improper storage conditions is the key reason imo so it's not really going to change wherever u get from
@Hemanth15938721@sidin ...you really own the watch atp? Don't get me wrong, Rolex carries a lot of value for longevity, brand name and reliability. Just not vfm
@Hemanth15938721@sidin Even if you're living, working overseas and earning in USD, Rolex watches aren't really what one would call "value for money" unless you consider the resale value at which point you'll have to baby the watch. And one could do that and get back their initial investment but do..
