I LOVE how technology is being incorporated into a math lesson...more teachers should get out of their comfort zone and try it - the kids will be more engaged!
I think this is a great idea. Teachers need to be aware of more ways to help students calm down in class, and unfortunately, this is an area not really focused on in any teacher prep courses.
Don't tell your students to just breathe. Use strategies that help them regulate their body and get their mind focused on something other than the problem they are facing in that moment. We added these to our schoolwide sensory calming kits today. PS, they're good for us too.
I have used webinars before and their effectiveness depends on the presentation itself. If the presenter is able to be enthusiastic and get the audience’s attention they can be very meaningful, but if the presenter is monotonous then you easily lose focus and it has no merit.
I agree. Research has shown pen and paper produce better results than all learning being done online. Unfortunately it’s something that is being disregarded too often.
While researching webinars in elementary education for a grad class, I stumbled upon this. I think it is important for all teachers to learn the value behind reconsidering worksheets. Definitely worth the watch.
This is the truth. If we want our students to learn (master/understand) the content they must guide the pace. So then why does almost every school system require teachers to follow a pacing guide?
@claudia_givens Is there funding available to attend? How do you register? Several schools in my system are studying one of his books now and have attended the academy. I would love the opportunity to go.
@CheMoore4 I agree. As an administrator I was astonished to see how many teachers are bullies in their own classrooms. Counselors are doing a much better job about educating students, but teachers need more PD so they are better able to recognize in themselves and others.
This is a great opportunity for PE teachers, especially if you return to the classroom and implement what you learned. @DallasBarber12 do you find it easy to implement what you learn into your classroom?
The ASAHPERD Fall Conference is approaching to better assist all PE teachers in order for them to increase student engagement and success in their classrooms. What a wonderful professional development opportunity.
I agree with this. I remember students always asking, “Is this going to be graded?” I would tell them I didn’t know, but it would be when I assess them on the content so it’s best to complete it for the practice.
4 rules for grading:
1. Not everything students do should be graded.
2. Not everything you collect should be graded.
3. Feedback is way more important than a grade.
4. A grade should reflect learning, not just accuracy.

I’m actually kind of tired of hearing about “implementing programs with fidelity.” I do know it’s important...but how ‘bout if we just do our job with fidelity.
To me... that’s what it means to be professional.
@saraheray_ I agree. I have seen schools that put pics of students up in a central location and if there aren’t 3 adults in the building who truly know the kid, a teacher is assigned to get to know them so every kid has someone they can trust and talk to.
@clasleaders always puts on an informative session with Julie Weatherly to ensure administrators and other LEAs are updated on the ever changing laws related to SpEd. I always looked forward to this session at the annual AP Conference. Highly recommend this to anyone in SpEd.
https://t.co/YAZNz2xe85 is a great resource for novice and veteran teachers they offer a plethora of information including webinars that can earn you PD credit. As a new SpEd teacher, I have benefited from these resources.
You might have brilliant lessons... but are you patient with students who need it explained a 2nd or 3rd time?
You might utilize all the latest technology... but do you work with the student who seems to have an attitude?
I think these answers matter.
@kstef2010@HB_Matthews @poppletny This is great! If you have not discovered Cube Creator, I recommend it as a planning tool too. Creative and fun way to organize thoughts for writing.
@KScanlonUWA I was introduced to Seesaw this year when my daughter started K. I love how I get a notification and am able to see what she is doing in class. It allows me and my husband to have meaningful conversations with our daughter about school. It is a phenomenal communication app!
