The book definitely has a racist view on reconstruction/freedman, but I was surprised on how the general summary on what happened was mostly the same to what it taught today. They just had 5 pages on the corruption and 2 on the racism/violence while it’s inverse now.

@MattZeitlin I know you post on Democratic Party self historiography and I’m curious in your experience how they covered/changed on Jackson’s Spoils System. Especially given how critical they used to be of Ulysses Grant for his era’s corruption.

For all the (mostly correct) on how American History used to focus much more on the good, I was surprised just how critical that 1910s book was on essentially every president (besides Lincoln) between Jackson and the 1880s for corruption.
