Watch: @JimfromOldham raises outdated mileage rates, welcoming the chancellor's commitment to review them.
Thanking UNISON for leading the campaign, he highlighted Gemma, a social care worker paying over £1,000 a year in mileage “just to do her job, and care for other people”
Great to be out in Royton today speaking to local people about a wide range of issues with our great candidate Kathryn England @oldhamlabour - Lots of follow up 🌹💪
At our meeting tonight, Oldham West, Chadderton & Royton CLP proudly nominated Lucy Powell for Deputy Leader. Lucy has the experience, campaigning grit and unity to take Labour forward and win. @Jimfromoldham#Labour#DeputyLeader
Lucy would be a great Deputy Leader @UKLabour. Experienced, independently minded and straight talking, exactly what’s needed!
And of course a fellow @CoopParty MP.
Very happy to support @LucyMPowell 🌹🐝
I’ve had a wonderful experience in my role as Minister of State delivering on fixing local government, driving devolution in England, and working for a boss like @AngelaRayner has been genuinely empowering and fulfilling, I’ll never forget the trust and confidence she placed in me.
Now it’s time for a fresh start.
Working people have been exploited and their efforts abused for too long. Quiet compliance and being asked to work to the grind and play by the rules without getting on in life has run its course. That is obvious.
The Labour government must recognise that all politics is family and community. For over a decade working people and their communities have been hammered and patience for change has run out. It’s a hard inheritance but the reality. If people don’t urgently feel the benefit in better living standards; safer, cleaner and decent neighbourhoods then it’s for nothing.
I wish everyone in @mhclg and wider local government the best for the future, you are all amazing and the country is lucky to have you.
The council tax bailiff system isn’t right or fair - vulnerable people deserve better.
This isn’t about punishment - it’s about ensuring a fair deal between councils and taxpayers. It’s about treating decent people with decency.

Putting power back into local communities is a priority of mine and of this government.
Our government’s desire is to take power out of Westminster and give it back to local communities, while working with local councils collaboratively to achieve better outcomes for the communities they serve.
Great day in the constituency on the final day of our summer school meeting the inspiring group of young people; plus a great visit to Royton Town Hall to see its restoration nearing completion.
Topped by our first Oldham West, Chadderton & Royton CLP meeting since we played our part in returning a Labour government 🌹
Today the @mhclg team met with the Prime Minister to talk about our contribution to deliver the change the country voted for.
Local gov, our cllrs, mayors and communities are central to our missions. Though a difficult inheritance after 14 years, still very exciting times ahead.
It’s been quite an amazing week as the new team at @mhclg get going.
Devolution and local government is central to delivering the change the country voted for and the missions we know will transform our country.
The enthusiasm for change is clear wherever we go. Onwards and upwards! 🇬🇧
Was great to welcome new Ministers of State @mtpennycook and @jimfromoldham to @mhclg yesterday.
Alongside the Deputy Prime Minister @angelarayner the new team will:
✅hand power back to communities
✅ rebuild local gov
✅fix the foundations so we deliver the homes people need
It is an honour to be appointed Minister of State by the Prime Minister today.
Looking forward to working with @AngelaRayner@mtpennycook and the team to deliver the change the country voted for, and to serve with a sense of public duty.
Exciting times.
As Parliament has been dissolved until after the General Election, I am a candidate for Oldham West, Chadderton and Royton, and not an MP.
Thank you! 🌹🐝
Promoted by Kyle Phythian on behalf of Jim McMahon both at Oldham Labour Party, Kershaw Road, Failsworth, M35 9PU.
Our opposition to an offensive into Rafah was a key plank of the February @UKLabour motion, and many interventions since, because of the obvious and significant risk to innocent civilians including children.
And that remains the position of the House of Commons.
