Quantum computing researcher; mostly qecc and Clifford group. Prior chemistry enthusiast. MIT to IQC to Xanadu to HRL to UIC (ECE). Opinions are my own.
I'm still recruiting PhD students to work on theoretical quantum error-correcting codes and symplectic problems in quantum computing at UIC. Please share and have interested parties email me! Prefer math or physics students, but we are in the ECE department
@Isaac__kim While I prefer theoretical, something like an LDPC hypergraph product simulation might be an accessible project. Or a decoding classical LDPC project. Although if I were teaching it, I'd also do basically just theory...
@quantum_graeme During my later time at IQC and afterwards there seems to have been an increase in basically sales pitch talks... I think saying that it's not ok would be appreciated by those there for science, and providing an "entrepreneur" talk option. It bothered me...
Happy to announce that this fall I'm starting at the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) as an assistant ECE Prof. My research group will focus on quantum error-correction, quantum simulation reductions, and other topics that use similar tools.
@theeczoo Wow this is really neat! I honestly never would've expected that. But QR codes are totally human inventions those birds are communicating like 5 bits only, pretty low quality... although kind of analog encoding so...
@letonyo@theeczoo "only"? It gets to qudits so that's a perfectly good pausing point for me :P (I'm sure the rest will come in time though--looking forward to some parts that were missing from the hard copy I got)
I think this might particularly interest you: @letonyo . Also the constructive family achieving optimal LDPC GKP-like encodings (symplectic integer lattices) should interest: @Joncyeh and @preskill
After a while of editing, my free-time work is finally out: https://t.co/DwziZxbTLv . In this paper I show how to take known stabilizer codes and use them for more exotic settings creating optimal: CV and GKP-like families, as well as conditions for integral domain local-dims.
It's odd to me the number of people who say they've seen my work/know of it/almost used it, yet no evidence of that ahead of time (citations, discussions, etc.). Is this normal? Or more normal for "rogue" researchers who don't attend conferences much?
@felix_led @quantum_graeme Just be glad that MIT's courses weren't counted. The first intro course is cross-listed in Mech E/Physics/Math, and the follow-up is EECS/Physics/Math. Would've really thrown the graph off
High-fidelity quantum devices are scaling up. In this work we showed a simple technique to optimally shrink the number of qubits needed for quantum simulations, allowing larger problems to be solved on current devices! In some models a factor of 2 savings! https://t.co/zVR21D9OMz
