@johnsontheochem @DulwichQuantum I saw VQE papers that defined chemical accuracy in the fine print to be relative to some classical approximation with no indication of the latter's accuracy. Probably whatever they could do on a laptop with PySCF.

@DulwichQuantum I tried to find out once and really never could. Sometimes it was referenced to some approximate calculation just because it was calculable. One of the Garnet Chan slides posted here said "spectroscopic accuracy" which makes sense at face value.
