Much love to @FrameworkPuter for this first in the PC industry milestone! USB PD 3.1 EPR up to 180W, beating all of the big guys! Nice work @cmonkey and team!
Our latest Framework Laptop 16 Deep Dive is on the custom ultra-efficient, high-density 180W USB-C Power Adapter we developed: https://t.co/wMiv3Wowlg
We might unintentionally end up being the first company to ship a >140W USB-PD 3.1 power adapter?
I will never not praise @FrameworkPuter's USB-C charger design. It's one of the few bundled chargers from a laptop OEM that uses two international standard receptacles and replaceable cables on both ends. Another win for modularity and repairability!
@_MG_ Yeah, and at the end of the day it wasn't super inventive, the attack. They replaced the charging brick with a charge through hub with something plugged into the USB-A port. the part that would have been more interesting was how they'd get into the building to work on the room.
@hnpn914 There is an official table for this kind of thing in the USB Type-C spec around mode entry and cable identification. I know because I've made edits to it in the USB spec workgroup.
@hnpn914 Anything labeled “USB4.0” is likely a fake… shady companies thinking they found a loophole around Thunderbolt certification requirements by not using their Thunderbolt trademark…
@mahelious @CubicleApril Modern Thunderbolt is based entirely on open USB technologies (USB-C, USB Power Delivery, USB4) because Intel donated their proprietary tech to USB last decade. Thunderbolt 4 is basically a marketing and certification construct now, so it's more open and standard than you think!
@CubicleApril@nvidia I think they had the right idea for the wrong reason. The USB-C port on mine was for Virtuallink. They had ambitions to use the port to drive VR headsets everywhere… that didn’t pan out, but it’s a great port for connecting to your display/dock with one cable!
@GreggAnderson Try this. https://t.co/c1a4bgcs71 USB C To USB C Cable - 10 ft / 3m - USB-IF Certified - 5A PD - USB 2.0 - USB Type C Charging Cable - USB C Fast Charge Cable (USB2C5C3M) https://t.co/kXIMhexR1j
@tayan1985@MKBHD Interesting stat: the USB-C connector is now capable of 250x the data transfer speed of the lightning connector used on today's iPhones.
The data speed gap grows...
