In the last week of January 1776, a weary Henry Knox arrived at the American siege lines outside of Boston.
Ten brutal weeks in the frozen wilderness behind him.
He had just accomplished the impossible. 60 tons of artillery. Hauled over 300 miles. In the dead of winter. Across a lake, over freezing rivers, through waist-deep drifts of snow. He had protected the guns, kept the men fed, kept the crews from quitting. He did not stop until he reached Washington’s camp.
And instead of sending a camp aide to greet him, it is said that George Washington walked out and welcomed the bookseller in person.
And according to the story, Henry Knox, overcome with exhaustion and relief, began to weep.
The guns had arrived.
George Washington could drive the British out of Boston.
(This is from the script of Stories of American Legends Episode 5: The Bookseller Who Saved Boston)

For 150 years, Langhorne Borough has been strengthened by the same enduring force: people who care deeply about their neighbors and their community.
That spirit was on full display this past weekend as neighbors from across the Borough came together for the annual Red, White & Blue Community Dinner.
From the town once known as Attleborough, to the arrival of the railroad and adoption of the Langhorne name in 1876, to the vibrant community we know today, every chapter of this Borough’s story has been written by those willing to serve, contribute, and build together.
As America continues to celebrate 250 years, it was an honor to mark Langhorne’s own historic anniversary and celebrate the shared history that continues to unite this community.
Huge thanks to the entire planning committee, Borough leaders, volunteers, and everyone whose hard work made this extraordinary evening possible. Here’s to 150 years of Langhorne Borough—and 150 more!

🇺🇸 How bad was Joshua Chamberlain’s prognosis at Petersburg?
In his ONLY on-the-spot battlefield promotion of the entire Civil War, General Ulysses S. Grant promoted him to Brigadier General.
It was done to honor Chamberlain the day after his wound. The exact same day he wrote his ‘final’ farewell letter to his wife.
And it was V Corps Commander Major General Gouverneur K. Warren who rushed the urgent request up the chain of command directly to Grant when he heard of Joshua’s situation.
They wanted him to die a General.
Grant even wrote about the moment in his memoirs:
"I promoted him on the spot, and forwarded a copy of my order to the War Department, asking that my act might be confirmed without any delay. This was done, and at last a gallant and meritorious officer received partial justice at the hands of his government."
