A high number of dead and injured patients were received by the Red Cross Field Hospital in Rafah this morning.

This is indicative of the increasing danger to civilians in Gaza, and the challenges each day brings for them.

We are heartbroken by the death of two of our dear colleagues, Ibrahim Eid and Ahmad Abu Hilal.

The ICRC reiterates its urgent call for the respect and protection of civilians in Gaza.

When cities are bombed.
When cities are shelled.
When cities are hit by airstrikes, rockets or artillery fire.

It’s the civilians who suffer.

When wars are fought in cities, an estimated 90% of casualties are civilians.

Heavy explosive weapons shouldn't be used in cities.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of another @PalestineRCS staff who was killed during the evacuation of Al Amal hospital back on 24 March 2024.

The body of Mohammad Maher Khalil Abed, an employee of the @PalestineRCS Al Amal Hospital, was discovered today, Sunday 7 April.

The @IFRC sends its deepest condolences to his family and friends and colleagues at the Palestine Red Crescent Society.

With this additional loss, the total number of casualties within our network, since the beginning of the conflict, rises to 19 members: 16 from Palestine Red Crescent and three from Magen David Adom.

Any attack on healthcare workers, ambulances, and medical facilities is unacceptable.

I cannot stress this enough: humanitarian workers must be protected.

It is with deep sorrow that I share the heartbreaking news of the killing of three members of the Palestine Red Crescent Society @PalestineRCS in the Gaza Strip.

In the first incident, two colleagues, Naeem Hasan Al-Jabali and Khalid Kulab, were both near the gate of the @PalestineRCS Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Younis when they were killed. Today, Hedaya Hamad was killed at the @PalestineRCS headquarters.

These deaths came after several days of shelling and fighting around the hospital.

The @IFRC sends its deepest condolences to the families of those killed and to their friends and colleagues at the Palestine Red Crescent Society.

Any attack on healthcare workers, ambulances, and medical facilities is unacceptable.

I strongly reiterate our call for unwavering respect for the Red Cross, Red Crescent and Red Crystal emblems and the crucial humanitarian services they represent.
