@dougdanna The headline's job is to get the prospect's eyeballs on the page.
The deck's job is to convince them to read the letter.
The lead copy's job is to convince them to keep reading.
And so on.
Every sentence, subhead and sidebar sells the next all the way to the order form.
I've reviewed and transformed thousands of pieces of copy for hundreds of clients and copywriters I coach.
And my advice invariably boils down to…
More contrast.
More contrast with what their competitors are doing.
More contrast with what people mistakenly believe — or are being lied to about.
And — perhaps biggest of all — more contrast with how prospects expect to be sold to.
As AI perpetuates its epidemic of sameness, contrast begets an ever more powerful advantage.
@ddeutsch Well said. If you can't distinguish your message from the noise you're just wasting time and money. And a contrarian approach can work wonders with the right list.
@GretchenPSmith You worked tirelessly for our fellow veterans, and helped so many in need. Haters will hate, but that's their insecurities. You're a rock star and we're here to support you.
I am looking at restarting #codeofvets It will take some time but I feel the passion rising. We have a lot of work to do. We are taking care of our own. One veteran at a time.
I needed some time to recalibrate, regroup, adapt and overcome.
@FFT1776 Jeff Healey is criminally underrated. But the best I've ever heard in person was a guy I knew in the Air Force. He had a 12-string guitar and could jam to anything. Absolutely incredible.
